Eli left later that night to go back to town where Reuben apparently was visiting Arlo. Fen seemed to crash after he was gone and fell into a deep sleep on my bed, which he seemed to have taken over, with CJ on his back while I watched random movies beside him. I wasn't sure what time I fell asleep, but I was rudely awoken the next morning to Fen's phone going off.
Which was strange, to say the least, because the phone was new and I wasn't aware he had any friends to call. It wasn't like he was the most social person.
Fen stirred when he heard the ringtone, grabbed his phone, and answered the video call as he rubbed his eyes.
"Hello?" He groggily said.
"Dude, are you still sleeping? It's going on one in the afternoon."
I blinked a few times. One? I grabbed my own phone and sure enough, he was telling the truth. I guess yesterday really did take a toll on both of us.
"What do you want, Ambrose?"
"They wanted to speak to you."
From my spot, I saw the camera shift to two young, ginger-haired children. "Hi, Mr. Fen!"
Fen seemed to wake up at the sight of them and I found myself wondering who they were.
"Hi, you two! What are you doing?"
The sudden change in his behavior caught me off guard.
"Coloring," the little girl who seemed to be the older of the two said. "Rosey said you got a phone so we could talk to you now even when you're far away."
"They've been asking about you," The man, Ambrose as Fen called him, explained. "I figured this would be a nice little surprise—stop."
His gaze shifted to the side and another man appeared in the camera for a brief moment before disappearing out of view again.
"Alpha Laken is still there?"
"Sadly," Ambrose responded shooting a pointed glance off to the side where I assumed the man was standing. "He goes back to the den tomorrow."
The den? As in The Rogue's Den?
"Why's he going back?" Fen questioned.
There was a pause and Ambrose exhaled. "You'd have to ask him. Apparently, 'his place' is there." He rolled his eyes but quickly pulled a smile on his face, but even to me who didn't know him, it was obvious there was more to the story. "Enough of that. Where's this mate you kept mentioning? I want to meet him."
The request caught me off guard and Fen glanced over at me curiously, almost like he was silently asking if I was okay with it. I moved into the camera's frame and watched Ambrose's smile grow.
"He's handsome," Ambrose noted and even though he clearly wasn't flirting, it was enough to get the werewolf beside me growling and one on the other side of the screen too. "Calm down. I was just making an observation. Cronan was it? It's nice to finally meet you. Fen's been talking about you."
