The familiar smell of sausage was the first thing I noticed when I woke up. I winced at the slight pain in my lower body as I sat up in looked around.
I wasn't surprised to see I was still in Fen's room. I fully intend to go to my own room after my shower, but the brown-eyed man insisted I stay. I could've argued with him and I probably should've, but after everything we'd done yesterday and the late-night realization I had, I was fucking tired. It didn't seem worth the argument at the time so I let him have his way.
Fen's room didn't look much different than when he'd first moved in. I wasn't sure why that bothered me. Maybe it was because I'd gotten to know him better in the time he'd been staying with me. Before, I always saw Fen as an enigma or kind of bland. He didn't seem to have many hobbies or interests, but now I noticed just how wrong I'd been.
I'd learned Fen enjoyed board games, and cooking, and had a larger personality than I originally gave him credit for. As much as I hated to admit it, moving him in seemed to have the opposite effect.
I hadn't been looking forward to going away initially, but maybe this would prove to be a good opportunity to clear my head. A short vacation and by the time I got back, my newfound, budding feelings would be gone.
I got out of bed, revealing not only the fact I only had a pair of shorts on but also a variety of marks littering my body. Marks that would thankfully be gone by the time I reached my pack.
I made my way toward the door and just as I was about to leave, I noticed a small pile of Fen's belongings tucked away in a bag that hadn't been there last night. Or maybe it had and I didn't see it because I was distracted. Either way, it was strange.
I took one last glance at it before leaving the room, going to the bathroom to brush my teeth, and then making my way down the hall toward the kitchen where Fen moved around with ease. His eyes found mine instantly and the way they seemed to light up made my stomach churn.
"Good morning," Fen greeted with a smile.
"Morning," I responded. "It smells good in here."
A plate was placed in front of me. "Since you're leaving today, I thought it was the least I could do."
"Thanks," I said to him. "But you know you don't have to keep making me food, right?"
"I know I don't have to, but I want to."
I nodded slowly, but I found that didn't quite relieve the gnawing feeling that I should be doing something for him instead.
Fen poked my forehead. "Stop doing that."
I scowled, pushing his hand away. "Doing what?"
"Overthinking," he said with a knowing look. "Just enjoy your breakfast."
