By the time we reached the new land, the sun was high in the sky, replacing the nightfall and the kids were all awake. Most of them were tired though, so while they were curious about their new surroundings, none of their excitement could match Ambrose who was practically jumping off the walls.

Everything had thankfully gone to plan and we didn't encounter any feral rogues. We did encounter the occasional normal one, but they were easy to scare off without becoming too much of a threat, so we were able to reach the new territory much faster than we'd originally planned for but I doubted anyone would complain.

Most of the older kids went inside the pack house to check out their rooms and explore, leaving me alone with Ambrose and a few of the other guides.

Ambrose was darting around, talking to everyone while I found myself a nice spot on some of the benches set up outside to sit on. However, it was hard to get comfortable when I could feel someone's eyes examining me.

"Did you need something?" I questioned as I followed where the stare seemed to be going and stopped at the alpha from before. He seemed a little surprised that I noticed but it was hard not to when he was watching me in such an obvious manner.

"I was just curious," he half-shrugged as he came a little closer. "What a gamma like yourself had to have done to be without an alpha or a beta by your side."

I was momentarily caught off guard by this, but I managed to pull myself together. "What did an alpha like yourself do to be without a pack of your own to rule?"

He smiled at my response and leaned against the table. "Exist."

My eyes traveled over his tanned skin, but stopped on the side of his neck where a...barcode sat? It was clearly branded into his skin which made me wince.

What had he gone through?

I didn't get the chance to ask before Ambrose came running over.

"I was wondering if you two were going to become friends," he admitted.

Friends was definitely an overstatement, but I decided not to correct him since he was in such a good mood.

"We did it," Ambrose said as he threw an arm over my shoulder, and out of the corner of my eye, I could see the alpha's gaze narrow on me even though Ambrose seemed unaware.

Interesting.

"What's your plan now?" I curiously inquired.

"Well, moving was only the first step. We got this land not because we wanted to start our own pack, but because we wanted to get the kids away from the den and needed somewhere safe for them to go, however, if I'm being honest with you, I'd love to see the ones without families to call their own be adopted. I've been talking to some of the alphas in the area and they agreed to stop by and see what they can do to help make that a reality."
