The ballroom was quiet. Minutes prior, it was a loud hub bustling with joy as Waluigi and Rosalina gathered the unlimited positive energy and used it to perform a dance truly remarkable. Yet, here they were, in almost the exact same position, all alone. The room was pitch black, save for Rosalina's wand emitting a faint light source. The lights had been destroyed in the battle that appeared to claim the lives of the famous Mario Bros. It seemed symbolic, as the deaths of the plumbers brought a huge unstoppable wave of darkness upon the Mushroom Kingdom. However, the illumination from Rosa's wand suggested that there was still hope. It was only faint hope, but still hope nonetheless. The pair did not move an inch; how could they after what had just happened. Eventually, Waluigi put his right arm around his weeping girlfriend's shoulder and comforted her, in complete contrast to what usually happened in the few days the pair truly got to know eachother. He was determined to prove he could be a hero. He had to. He knew they could not  remain where they were.

"Come on Rosie, we best show the citizens that at least you are safe. It is difficult to imagine what they are going through right now." The crying stopped. She knew he was right. Furthermore, at least he was here. Perhaps the constant disrespect Waluigi received did have some benefits after all, since it was the sole reason why Bowser let him be.

"Alright Waluigi," she replied weakly. The pair escorted eachother towards the ballroom's exit. It was much brighter in the main hallway, and consequently they were able to witness the devastation that lay before them. The tall toad statues that watched over any visitors that wandered the castle were shattered as if they were dropped from a hundred metres high; the charred carpet was simply a sorrow state of affairs; the lifeless bodies of toad soldiers scattered the floor, painting it red with their blood; while the eerie silence from the ballroom failed to relax its hold on the pair and followed them as they headed out through  the burnt  remains of the entrance.

The weather did not match the mood of Toad town, for it was a bright, sunny day. One could be forgiven for believeing all was good if they didn't gaze at the castle in all its ruin. The main square was filled with countless toads, with not a single happy face in sight. even Rosalina's appearance was only met with a slight sigh of relief, with Waluigi's presence being barely acknowledged at all. Many toads were crying, since their loved ones lay permanently motionless only a few hundred metres away, while others shivered in panic like they were perched on the summit of Cool Cool Mountain.

Rosalina addressed the croud. "Listen, toads of the Mushroom Kingdom. I do not need to say that a terrible event has just occurred, for i am certain you have witnessed it with your own eyes. Howver, I am not so certain that you are aware that the Mario Bros are no more." Those last words triggered her eyes to shed even more tears, as if they were a leaky tap. She could barely hear the deafening gasp of the hndreds of toads that stood before her. Waluigi stood there with shame pounding at his body; if only if he wasn't deafened by his rage when wario visited his some, since he was certain his new enemy was blerting out the plan anyway. Perhaps he could have warned everyone had he known. He couldn't dwell on his regret for a second longer as Rosalina continued to attempt to reassure the crowd things could get better. " It is hard to take this news in," she spoke angelically," but you must. Is there anyone who could take charge of the kingdom in the meantime?"

After a few silent seconds, a posh voice spoke up. "I will, princess!" It was Toadsworth, Peach's personal assistant. Rosalina smiled, it wasn't all doom and gloom after all. She stated that she would have to return home to check on her home to ensure it was not attacked. As she rose to the sky, she left behind a very tense standoff. Waluigi was alone on the stage. The man who the kingdom loathed with only a slight justification faced the crowd who stabbed his emotional state with nasty glares. His mouth quivering with nervousness, he began to speak.

"Look, I know you despise me." His nasally voice scraped at the eardrums at all who heard it. "I have done some bad things." He closed his eyes and dropped his head. Was he really the person who the kingdom needed? He pushed through the shame and continued, slowly lifting his head. "Waluigi knows he has made mistakes. Waluigi is sorry. But there is know time to drown in Waluigi's sorrows. Rosalina has helped me become the person I truly am over the past few days, and I can't be more thankful." All of a sudden the hard glares began to soften. The people were listening to him for once. He continued, "We will get your leader back. the Mario Bros may be no more, and for some of you, it may be hard to move on, but this is not the Mario Kingdom, nor the Luigi Kingdom, heck it isn't even the Peach Kingdom, this is the Mushroom Kingdom!!! And we all will recover." A huge cheer erupted from the crowd; the whole kingdom could probably hear it. Waluigi was basking in the future glory that awaited him, but he had to remain grounded. He calmly finished, "In order to defeat Bowser, we must rescue as many of our allies as possible." He turned around, only to find Rosalina smiling warmly like a proud mother; it was clear she evaded his awareness and, based on her reaction, Waluigi deduced that her home was safe. The couple departed the stage, leaving Toadsworth to address his temporary subjects. They headed towards Waluigi's home to plan their adventure.
