"Wah!!!!" Waluigi screamed as he braced for impact. The princess meanwhile, remained calm as she glided with grace through the air, before gently landing on the ground. She chuckled as she caught her lover with a protective bubble before lowering him slowly to the surface. "Thanks Rosie." Waluigi said. They turned around to look at the island. Normally it was a more positive version of Crocodile Isle but straight away there was a negative aura that loomed over it. What was more unsettling was that the giant Donkey Kong sculpture that KIng K Rool mimicked was painted over with a giant red cross. Waluigi froze in disbelief. He remembered the sign that cancelled the kart race. Whoever did that must have painted this one as well. His thoughts were cut out by Rosalina who shoved him to the floor. The man was bewildered until she whispered "Bowser's minions." This was not good. Their tall frames would make it extremely difficult to evade any troops for much longer. "Its fine, I have an idea," she reassured. "These guards may know where Donkey Kong is hidden-"
All of a sudden she was interrupted by a chorus of screams. The pair looked up. Goombas were running in fear, Koopa Troopas were cowering in their shells, while Lakitus desperately levitated towards the sky. The pair were confused, yet slightly hopeful, since this threat could be of use to them. Flames began to erupt, forcing them to relocate. Amidst the carnage, a silhouette was visible. Waluigi rubbed his eyes. "Is that-"
"Yes," Rosalina responded, in as much shock as him. It was Donkey Kong. He had somehow freed himself from captivity, although he was being hunted down like a wild beast. "DK!!!" Rosalina bellowed, waving her arms frantically so he could see them. The ape charged towards them, his silhouette becoming less black and more brown as he neared.
"What are you doing here ?"he asked.
"Rescuing you and the others," Rosalina replied. "How can we help?" Donkey Kong now looked at Waluigi and frowned as the plumber smiled awkwardly. "What use is he?" he enquired.
Now Waluigi frowned. "Hey mister, if you don't want our help then we'll be on our way."
DK sighed. He could do with the help. "Fine, we need to rid this island of these terrible creatures." Rosalina readied her wand as Waluigi armed himself with his racket and an unlimited supply of tennis balls. The battle continued. Waluigi launched a ball into the air before slamming it with all of his might as Rosalina used her magic to force many enemies together, allowing Waluigi to hit multiple at once, the duo complementing eachother perfectly. Donkey Kong used his brawn to pound any stragglers, making the battle seem like a foregone conclusion. "Come on, this way!" he shouted as he gestured for the pair to follow him. "We need to save Diddy and Cranky!"
The trio raced through the flames, swatting away any enemies with ease and leaving them at mercy to the wrath of the fire. They arrived at Donkey Kong's home, where a pair of chain chomps stood guard. They barked with fury and gnashed their teeth like they were a collection of blades. This would not be easy. They lunged towards the trio, who only narrowly dodged the attacks. Waluigi countered by scraping one of them with his thorny racket. His victim howlled in pain but was certainly not defeated, its cuts fuelling its hatred. Rosalina pointed her wand at Waluigi's tennis ball, resulting in it increasing in size and mass. Waluigi had no time to properly prepare his attack so he swung hectically. It was working. The chomps began to retreat, but there was still time for Donkey Kong to have a say. He grabbed both chains at once and then swung around as if he was on a roundabout before releasing. As he did so, Rosalina amplified the effects, meaning the chomps were flung into outer space as if they had entered a launch star. The battle was over, but the flames were not. As Donkey Kong climbed the ladder to his home and reunited with his friends, Rosalina used all of her strength to summon rain clouds. This was useful, since they sprayed their might among the whole forest. The flames retreated in fright, eventually disappearing from sight. It was truly over. DK Island was saved.
The large ape hugged the couple as hard as he could, taking them by surprise. "Thank you!" he expressed with eternal gratefullness. "Waluigi, you have made up for the past. I would like to call you my friend." They shook hands, before Rosalina asked, "DK, what were they doing to you?" All of a sudden the happiness on his face was drained down a pipe. "Rosalina, they held me in a dungeon. They tortured me, demanding me to tell them your location. I did not relent since I did not know." Rosalina and Waluigi were horrified. Bowser really was one disgusting being. The ape continued, tears glistening in his eyes as Diddy Kong comforted him. "They then tried to put this headgear on my face, mentioning something about brainwashing. Those words gifted me the strength to leave." This was bad. It was likely the other hostagages would endure a similar fate.
"Oh my god!" Waluigi exclaimed. "We need to leave now."
"I can't... yet," said DK. "I need to recover and help the island heal too. Besides, you two could do with some more alone time," he winked mischeviously. "How did you get here anyway?"
"Long story short, K Rool helped us," Waluigi admitted to a stunned Donkey Kong. "He may or may not help us if we get to Bowser."
"Wow." As he said that, a huge pirate ship apprached them. It was mighty, with all other ships bowing to it. On the bow stood king K Rool. "i suppose you two need a lift?" he asked. Donkey Kong was gobsmacked, although the crocodile king did not fully acknowledge his presense.
"Wait a minute, where do we go next?" Waluigi enquired. It was a good point.
"One of my captors said something about Dry Dry Desert, someone may be held in the ruins, although I don't know who," DK answered.
"Thanks," the pair said in unison as they boarded the Gang-Plank Galleon and waved goodbye to Donkey Kong for now.
