Waluigi and Rosalina headed towards the volcano, accompainied by about ten yoshis, including Waluigi's purple friend. The rest, consisting of around sixty charged at the island's main town, which acted as a yoshi prison, intending to cause a distraction and hopefully liberate as many prisoners as they could. The volcano was heavily guarded by huge numbers of shy guys. Each one wore a red coat which covered most of their body,, along with a white mask with black eyes which could suck the soul out of anyone who gazed into its void for too long.
"Stand down now!" one of them ordered with aggression.
"Why, what are you going to do? Aw... are you going to take your mask off and frighten us?" Waluigi asked rather sarcastically, accompainied by a snicker from Rosalina and the yoshis. "Well, lets just attack them to be on the safe side," he suggested.
The battle at the base of the volcano was tough. What the shy guys lacked in ruthlessness and might, they more than made up for in sheer numbers. Waluigi attacked them like he was swatting flies away; this worked to some extent but it was taking up precious time. He could only hope that the rest of the yoshis were holding on.
The battle at the yoshi town was going surprisingly well for the yoshis. Many of bowser's troops were caught completely off guard, allowing the relatively small attacking force to overwhelm the entrance. Within minutes they had reached the perimeter wall. As the prisoners witnessed these events, they began to turn on their captors. Many captured yoshis began to flutter in the air then ground pound, causing waves of air to blast the many shy guys and goombas backwards, incapacitating them. As the free yoshis began to destroy the shackles that restrained the captive yoshis, the battle swiftly transitioned into a rout. Being defeated by an attacking force numbering only sixty was bad enough, but when those numbers grew from the inside like a virus infecting a body, then it only exacerbated the issue. Many of Bowser's soldiers fled in terror, scurrying to hop into any boat they could find. Despite the terrible defeat, they all escaped with their lives. "Leave them, they're not worth it," one yoshi commanded.
Oh how they would regret that.
As the yoshis celebrated with their rescued friends, the situation on the volcano was immediately improved, though Waluigi and the others were unaware, expecting the fighting on the ground to last much longer than it did. "Rosie, we could do with some help here!" Waluigi exclaimed. Throughout all of the fighting, Rosalina remained as still as a statue, unwilling o snatch any more lives away. It was not in her character. She was a caring mother who wanted to look after her children. Her hand trembled in conflict. Waluigi rolled his eyes, but he understood that she could not bring herself to become a ruthless killer. The koopa incident probably gave her enough trauma, plus the limited space on the narrow winding path made assisting Waluigi extremely risky for the other yoshis. "Fine! Maybe try and climb yourself then," Waluigi proposed.
"Ok, thanks Waluigi," she replied gratefully, leaping over the shy guys with elegance. Not one of them noticed the towering figure briefly casting a shadow over them as she then raced higher up the volcano.
"The rest of you," Waluigi ordered, "return to your friends, I can deal with this."
"No," the purple yoshi replied. "We can't leave you."
"I appreciate the concern, but Waluigi works best alone. I can't risk any of you dying here," he insisted, toiling under the immense pressure of countless shy guys attacking him.
The yoshis relented. "Please be careful, friend," the purple one said. That word spurred Waluigi on, igniting a spark within him. he let out a ferocious battle cry before sweeping away the shy guys like they were litter being cast off into a bin, watching them fall to their doom below. Although the battle started at the base of the volcano, it slowly crept higher and higher as Waluigi pushe dthe shy guys back. Waluigi breathed a huge sigh of relief as the last shy guy fell off the perilous path. As he lightly jogged up the incline, a huge rumble emerged from below. Waluig feared it was the volcano preparing its eruption like a five course meal being made by a chef, but it was much worse. One by one, shy guys emerged from the depths below, each one being lifted by a tiny propellor, as if they were a helicopter. Waluigi gulped, before sprinting as fast as he could. "Rosie! We have an issue!" he yelled, smacking as many tennis balls as he could, resulting in a few shy guys actually falling to thier demise, but not nearly enough.
Rosalina did not hear this cry for help. She had made it to the summit, where she saw a cage, containing yoshi hanging perilously by a thread above the molten hot lava below. "Yoshi!" she yelled. A familiar face immediately awoke, lifting its head to stare directly at Rosalina. "Yoshi Yoshi!" he shouted in delight, but as he did so, the cage jolted. "Um.. princess, is there any way you can help me out of here without stepping on it?" Yoshi asked.
She smilied, "Don't worry Yoshi," she replied as the cage door opened, her magic gently pulling the green lizard to safety. The warm reuinion was swiftly cut short when a nasally voice rapidly approached. For a brief moment Rosalina thought the volcano was about to blow, as if releasing the prisoner launched some sort of trap, but she saw the completely familiar outline of Waluigi.
Followed by around eighty hovering shy guys. The princess gasped in fright, but Yoshi dragged the pair to safety, showing them a secret exit. They lost the shy guys, who, accepting defeat followed their allies away from the island.
"Phew," Waluigi said, clearly exhausted from the action.
"Why is he here?" asked Yoshi, not necessarily with hostility, but rather with bemusement. he distrusted Waluigi, but if Rosalina could trust him, especially after their dance, then he didn't have any issues.
"Helping Rosie, of course," Waluigi responded, leaning flirtatiously on his raquet, giving the princess a wink.
Rosalina giggled before addressing the green creature. "That is true. We have so far freed DK Island, and hopefully here, if the battle below has been won."
Yoshi smiled warmly, before pointing down to the cheering yoshis below. They had done it. The island was free. To celebrate, a huge party was held in the main town, with Rosalina and Waluigi being the main guests.
"What?!" Bowser yelled in disbelief, as what was once a pair of formidable and terrifying hands lay in a crumbled heap of shattered bricks. He didn't care too much about the prisoner; it was a weak luma, but this was worrying. It showed how powerful Rosalina and Waluigi were as a duo.
"Sir, we have urgent news!" a messenger koopa exclaimed.
"What is it?" Bowser growled.
"Our troops have fled Yoshi's Island."
Bowser grinned menacingly. He howled in delight. "Good, then lets head there immediately. Lets do a full on assault, show them how they foolishly fell right into my trap."
