At the break of dawn the next day, the cosmic couple began the search for the warp pipe. It wouldn't prove to be difficult since this was a racetrack and not an ancient jungle temple; it has to be easy fr the racers to actually get to the track. The pipe was swiftly located further down the corridor, in the chamber of warp pipes. This room consisted of many dark green pipes with each one travelling off to its own destination. Right now, however, the only one that mattered was the pipe to Yoshi's Island. Rosalina realised the rest may be useful later. "Maybe we can use this place as a base for our missions? It seems safe and cosy, plus travel time would be very limited," she suggested. Waluigi looked at her in agreement and they walked towards the pipe. As Rosalina began to leap onto the pipe, Waluigi's branch of an arm grabbed her shoulder. "Rosie, are you sure about this. We don't know what's up ahead." Rosalina gripped his arm before gently brushing it aside. "Relax my dear, it should be fine. Besides, if this pipe was in a dangerous spot, then wouldn't this place be occupied by the wrong people?" she reassured him.
"Ok, go ahead," Waluigi instructed. He reached for his infinitely large pocket (how else would anyone be able to carry thousands of coins) yet felt nothing. Then it dawned on him. "Rosie- wait!!" he yelled but it was too late as she sank into the green hole. What if it was a trap; he never fully trusted those toads and now she would be alone for a minute. Waluigi sprinted back to the room they had slept in. HE tossed everything aside, deteemined to find his raquet; he could not leave unarmed. "Come on, where are you you stupid thing?" he shouted in frustration. "Aha!" The second he lay his fingers on his prized possession he swiftly departed the room before he gave himself in to the pipe. Within seconds he emerged into a tropical rainforest. He was surrounded by razor thin grass that felt incredible to stand on, tall towering trees whose leaves spread out like an eagle's wings and calm rivers that acted as a haven for those who needed a rest. There was no Rosalina. There was no Rosalina.
There was no Rosalina.
Waluigi panicked. He began to leak sweat as if he was overflowing with water. A gigantic lump formed in his throat, not helped by his increasingly rapid and shallow breath. He stamped the floor in immense vexation, his enormous legs oscillating at remarkable speed, creating small but noticeable cracks in the floor. At once, the only blemishes on the landscape for miles was made. "AAAARRRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!" he screamed, ensuring every last air particle had left his lungs and escaped via his mouth. He had foolishly left Rosalina at the mercy of any predators the forest took care of. He began to walk in a straight line. He could not stay were he was, even if he was moving in the complete opposite direction to Rosalina's actual position. He had to find her.
"Rosie!!" he repeatedly bellowed. He had shouted for so long that his throat began to ache, each yell wearing it thinner and thinner. He even started to go insane after hearing the same thing over and over again. Eventually, he gave up, before collapsing into a fruit tree. He laughed maniacally, before the laughter slowly transitioned into crying. It was his fault that Rosalina was missing, if only he wasn't so forgetful.
If only he wasn't who he was.
No, he couldn't have that mindset. After all Rosalina had told him, he couldn't give up on himself, could he? The answer in Waluigi's heart was no but in his head it was yes. It was a truly dire situation for the one he called his girlfriend. Her non violent demeanour would put herself at even greater risk. He couldn't stop thinking about these potential scenarios made up by his mind. As his two most vital organs began emotional conflict with one another, he dozed off, exhausted by his continuous failures.
"Hey, mister, are you lost?"
Waluigi leapt up at once, alarmed by this sudden and unfamiliar voice. He glanced at the purple yoshi stood next to him before deducing he was friendly. "No, not really. have you seen a princess with pale blonde hair and wearing an elegant teal dress?" he enquired, still ashamed of his unintentional actions. the purple yoshi shook his head but figured out something was up with this man. "Sounds like she means a lot to you. Well, if you both came out of the Ice Ice Outpost pipe, then she shouldn't be too far. This area is now one of the only safe areas of the island ever since Bowser conquered it."
"I'm so sorry," Waluigi said with sympathy. "That's why we came here, to look for Yoshi."
The purple ally laughed. "We're all called Yoshi! But don't worry, I know who you mean." His tone swung like a pendulum into a more serious expression. Last I heard he was being held captive at the summit of the big mountain, maybe your special one is headed there."
"There's always a mountain," Waluigi muttered, ensuring the purple yoshi didn't hear.
"Come, let me introduce you to the resistance, it's not a long walk."
Resistance? This could only spell good news. He would be willing to help as long as they helped him, which would be likely since they shared a common goal, only Waluigi had an extra aim as well. The purple pair strolled for a few minutes before coming across a huge gathering of imposing, thick bushes. "Through here," the yoshi said. It was hard navigating the countless branches and leaves that obstructed Waluigi's face rather annoyingly, but he made it through. The other end of the bushes revealed a small village. There were a handful of large wooden shacks which orbited a much greater central building. Many yoshis of varying colours: blue, red, pink, purple and yellow- but not green- swarmed the place, a hopeful aura filling the hideout to the brim. As Waluigi entered the central building, he was greeted with some surprised yet friendly looks, which made a welcome diversion from the norm to him. He descended a flight of stairs before entering what his friend, yes, friend, called the main strategic room. Nothing could prepare him for what came next. As he walked through the door, the unmissable outline of a tall, otherworldly woman equipped with a crown and a wand came into view. "Rosie?" he asked, unsure as to whether he was hallucinating.
The princess turned around, before hastily running towards the closest person in her life. The couple hugged eachother tightly as yoshi onlookers cheered in approval. waluigi was releasing tears that trickled onto Rosalina's bare shoulder. "I'm sorry, I forgot my raqu-"
"Sshh, its fine," Rosalina calmly comforted him as she placed a solitary finger on his mouth. "I would have stayed by the pipe if these guys didn't pick me up."
They finally released their grasp on eachother before Rosalina stated that there was a plan to free Yoshi. The purple yoshi Waluigi had befriended stood above the rest before saying, "Most of you know the drill, but for those who don't," he looked at Waluigi," some of us will support these two friendly humans in their assault on the volcano, while the rest of you will cause a distraction by attacking the main fortress."
'So it was a volcano?' Waluigi thought. 'at least its some variety.'
Rosalina stared into Waluigi's soul, placing both of her smooth, porcelain hands on his shoulders. She gave him a tiny smile, before asking, "Are you ready honey?"
"You bet."
