The Gang-Plank Galleon arrived at Toad Town. Waluigi and Rosalina had only been gone for a couple of days and yet they were back; they had expected to have been much longer. Not much had changed since there was still an emotional negative aura surrounding the place. As K Rool bade them farewell, a huge crowd had begun to gather like a a swarm of bees. The couple perched themselves upon a pile of wooden crates destined to be loaded onto a ship. There was a lot of commotion since an update seemed inevitable, and it came from Waluigi.
"OK, settle down," he commanded. The crowd duly obliged. "The news we bring is, well mixed to say the least. I'll start with the good news, Donkey Kong is doing well, and DK Island is free from Bowser's grip." A huge cheer erupted from the toads. "Also," he added, "King K Rool may or may not support us further down the line with an army."
"However," Rosalina butted in, " while captive, our friend detailed the terrible conditions he had to endure. It sounded rather unpleasant, to say the least. Even worse, is that Bowser's minions attempted to force a brainwashing device upon him- he broke free just in time, although I fear that our other friends may not be so lucky, as a consequence we must make haste for Dry Dry Desert."
The crowd swiftly began to disperse, fully aware that there was no time to waste. Dry Dry Desert's ruins were half a day's walk away to the northwest so camping supplies were necessary, since it was already midday. a handful of toads readily prepared these supplies. The pair then set off on their journey. As they departed, Waluigi spotted Mushroom Hill on the horizon; he remembered how he had one of his first close moments with the celestial lady, allowing him to turn his life around. It was hard to believe that it had only happened a week ago.
"We best keep our guard, Rosie, we don't know what lies ahead."
"Good idea Waluigi."
For the first few of hours, there were no issues. If the reasons for the walk didn't exist, then it could be said that it would be a rather pleasant activity. Sadly, the urgency sapped much of the enjoyment the lovers may have experienced as a result. Still, there were many pleasant sights. Rosalina watched in awe as a shoal of cheep cheeps flopped thier way down a river like bouncing balls; Waluigi admired the landscape, which consisted of towering shrooms that offered potential protection from the elements and relaxing, rolling, luscious green hills; and the pair of them gazed at the sky, wondering if the cloud formations meant anything at all, or if they were just randomly created. However, they encountered their first problem near Woody Woods. A gang of koopas were loitering around, heckling anyone that dared step foot on their turf. Their next victims would be the unassuming duo.
"Stop there, you two," one ordered. It was impossible to distinguish any differences between the four, since they all had the same green shell, the same yellow texture and the same green boots that they had clearly never taken off. "We want money."
"You stepped on our turf," another one chimed in.
"Hang on," a third one said, "Isn't that the wanted princess." He dashed away in order to reveal their location to the nearest battalion of troops. Waluigi could not pursue since he had three more to deal with so he ordered Rosalina to pursue. She had no choice, for the mission was in great jeopardy.
"Come catch me, hot one," the runaway koopa taunted. That really irked Rosalina. She rarely felt like that. That koopa would pay. She pointed her wand at the koopa and immediately summoned a thunder cloud. Within seconds the disrespectful koopa was made to regret his decisions but couldn't rectify them since he was zapped into dust. Rosalina ground herself to a halt. Her arm twitched uncontrollably and she dropped her wand in shock and despair. This wasn't her. a cold blooded killer. The koopa didn't do anything outrageous, sure he had to be stopped but not like this. She fell to her knees. Tears streaked from her face, but not for the first time. Yet for the first time, she felt guilt, she felt remorse. She knew she had done something terrible.
"Rosie- are you ok?" waluigi asked in a concerned manner.
No reply.
"hey, wahts the matter with my precios Rosalina?"
All Rosalina could do was point to the pile of black dust laying on the ground. Waluigi deduced immediately what had happened. He embraced her, placing his bloodied raquet to one side as he offered his support. "Come on, lets camp here since it's getting dark." The princess finally budged and aided waluigi in placing the seats, tent and started a fire. as the light began to fade away, they sat there, contemplating what just happened. Waluigi shifted towards Rosalina. He put his arm around her shoulder. He remembered how warm and soft it was, like a hot pillow. Rosalina leaned her head onto his cold and rigid shoulder. She didn't care how comfortable it felt as long as it was Waluigi's, which it was.
"I- I can't believe I killed someone," Rosalina sobbed.
Waluigi sighed. He took his cap off and held it in his other hand, placing it on his knee. "Well, I killed three of them." he chuckled before expressing sternly " I know you aren't the violent type, but this is war. This happens. Plus, what if he got away?"
"But-"
"There is no 'but' my dear. Waluigi knows you are upset, but you did the right thing. Because of that, we are still here, aren't we?"
Rosalina smiled; his words were soothing despite his scraping, nasally voice. That is why she loved him, because he expressed his kindness in his own way. he was not a bad person, as more people were beginning to discover. The pair shared a deep, passionate kiss before retreating to the tent. The rest would be required.
