In The JaiSingh House, Mumbai:
Manya was sleeping with her palm on Anya's temple. Anya who was soothed by the touch went into a deeper slumber with her sister on her side. At around 6 in the morning, Anya woke up as she felt her throat go dry with all the crying and yelling, she did the day before. That is when she realized how Manya was sleeping in a pretty uncomfortable position. She slowly maneuvered her body out of Manya's reach and helped her relax on the bed.
Anya didn't feel any weakness in her body much to her delight as if the sound sleep cured all of her exertion away. She tip-toed out of the room to quench her thirst with some chilled water, a habit of hers, Manya hated. Her throat was irritating her, and she wanted to have the chilled water to numb down that sensation even after knowing that it will just be a temporary respite and can lead to a potential infection.
But at that point, she couldn't care less. She gulped down some icy cold water and her throat felt better making her smile. Anya then went to her room to change from these awful clothes. Once she freshened up and came down from the first floor, she could see the house help and the cook making an entry. Anya couldn't have been happier because she was really hungry.
"Harini Didi! Kuch acha banado mereliye bahut bhook lag rahi hain" Anya asked sweetly and the cook just nodded in bewilderment.
They have been working for the Jaisinghs' ever since they shifted here but Anya never looked like she cared a damn. It was only recently that she started addressing them with respect and making requests. They were used to her temperamental behaviour and outright rudeness so much that this Anya looked strange to them.
But like always, they didn't react much and went on with their business which was the most important house rule set by Manya. She very clearly instructed everyone when she recruited them that they should not be bothered by anything that happens in the house - good, bad, ugly. She asked them to mind their own business come what may and ensure that they don't talk about the Jaisinghs' anywhere to anyone.
She was paying them handsomely and Manya has been a very generous Boss. So, they never complained or gave it a second thought. Anya's behaviour prior to this was something they expected already, given the instructions. But this was shocking for them. The house started feeling like home these days and none of them knew how and why.
They were just glad to experience the new vibe of the house because even they felt bad for Manya and her predicament and always wished for things to get better for her. Anya behaving in a way that didn't hurt Manya was something so rare, but they have been seeing it for the past couple of days quite often. They kept their theories and expectations to themselves and got to work, like always.
Anya finished her breakfast and went to see how Manya is doing. She hoped to see her still resting because she knew what must have gone in her sister's mind and heart when she saw all that unfolding. They have been through hell together but what happened just yesterday was the closest the enemy got to them after a good 2 years.
They have successfully managed to evade his radar, and God alone knows how he managed to find her. Even if he did, none of them expected him to attack outrightly. They have received a lot of threats from him and his aides before 2 years when he was issued the restraining orders and was forced to handover the company back to Manya. But he never went beyond that.
