Dylan's POV
The cleaners arrive promptly at 9am, making sure to ring the doorbell no less than 7 times. By the time I make it down the stairs, Avery is opening the door to let them in. She had the time saving advantage with her room being downstairs and all, but that doesn't stop her from giving me the death glare the entire time. I can't be bothered to start arguing her first thing in the morning though, so I slink back to my room, trying not to wake Jackie as I close the bathroom door.
I grab my jeans from the floor emptying the contents to see if I left anything for myself this morning. These coke hangovers are too hard to get through without help, it's no different than the people who get blackout drunk and order a bloody Mary for breakfast. And lucky for me I have half a joint and what looks like at least one line's worth of coke. Enough to bring me to life. I start the shower and crack a window so the smoke doesn't alarm anyone.
I decide to finally check my phone messages from last night, as I light up the joint. I kind of forgot about them after being punched in the face, and I know May was texting me.
"Should've known you really were with her"
"You think she's gonna stay with you now that you're a coke head like me?"
"She ruined everything. We were perfect."
There's a handful of incoherent voicemails accompanying the texts, but when I can't understand anything besides "Dylan, you love me." I delete them. I flick the bud of the joint out the window, only giving it my attention when I hear a yelp from below.
"Sorry!" I yell to the cleaning lady below that I hit, and return to the line I made earlier. I honestly would've done a 2nd one if I had more, but the weed helps it hit harder at least. With the energy coming back to my body, I flip the shower off and walk back into the room to find Jackie sat criss-cross applesauce on my bed.
"Hey you." I say to get her attention.
"How are you feeling?" She asks, but her usual energy in her voice is missing.
"I'm okay." I respond, and she looks up finally, to inspect my face from last night.
"You think Avery will talk to me today? She spent all day ignoring Jayden until Theo pressured her to talk to him." She starts panicking aloud.
"Then push her to talk like Theo did." I say nonchalantly. She glares up at me, and I suddenly remember why Avery's her best friend.
"She'll get over it. Why does it have to be a bad thing for her best friend to date her brother? If you play your cards right, I could end up making y'all sisters." I joke, trying to lighten the mood, but she gets up from the bed.
"Yeah once you're done doing coke with your ex girlfriend." She says bitterly, searching the room for her shoes. I stand up, grabbing her wrist to stop her search.
"Did we not go over this last night?" I ask, recalling my desperate attempt to keep her from telling anyone about the coke situation. She really likes me...So she'll be happy dating me, and my coke use can be left in the vault. Just something I did during my "teenage dirtbag" years. It's a win win.
Jackie's POV
"We got a bit interrupted at the end there. I don't recall you convincing me of too much though, since you were high and all." I snarkily respond.
"Well I'm not now." He responds, with bloodshot eyes from the night before. He must not have slept at all last night.
"And will you be again?" I ask, nervousness clear in my voice, despite my attempt to seem calm.
