Virginia had managed to pick up the signal, it was on a beach near the 501st base. The clouds were dissipating slightly, so she was able to see the location of the signal better.
From above she could make out three human figures and two Striker Units nearby. All three seemed to be sitting, two figures dressed in black or at least very dark colors and one in white.
The officers from Fuso wore white, perhaps it was their leader, Major Sakamoto? Maybe they were doing night drills, but why were they sitting there? She thought about immediately approaching to ask why they were transmitting a signal but immediately stopped. If what they were doing was a drill they were most likely armed; What if they mistook her for a Neuroi? You couldn't see too well in the night, it was a real possibility.
So she opted for Plan B: Far from the beach she landed with as little silence as possible, taking her Striker Unit in hand and approaching the beach, to peer down from a small hill. She was thus able to observe them better, and was able to recognize two people: The first, the one dressed in white was an ace of the Regia Aeronautica, Francesca Lucchini, while the second, the one with silver hair was a Night Witch, Sanya Litvyak, the one who lately he heard more singing.
It was the third person's turn, and she didn't understand who it was: It was a male, a boy perhaps slightly younger than her, dressed in dark military clothes.
He spoke both Britannian and Roman, and appeared to be writing something in Orussian on a piece of paper.Curiosity built as time passed, especially when he heard the word "Finished!" from Francesca.
The three began to sing a melody she had never heard before, all in Orussian. Francesca and that kid had some difficulty speaking, that's how she deduced that he was not native from Orussia, however he didn't seem to be having too much difficulty pronouncing the words; As the song progressed he used to get more comfortable until he completely stopped making pronunciation errors. So she began to lean out, more and more, accidentally slipping on the smooth rock and dislodging some stones.
Luckily she managed to hide in time.l, but Andrea, even of singing, heard her, and started to wonder if it was an hallucination or a real movement he heard.
Slowly, without attracting attention, he moved towards his rifle, ready to shoulder it. Francesca, however, noticed him, took him by the hand, and while still singing she pushed him to continue singing, without caring about the surrounding area, reassuring him. So he stopped worrying and continued singing undisturbed."You idiot, you should pay more attention" Virginia thought to herself, brushing off the sand that had stuck to his legs and arms.
She returned to observe, in time for the grand finale: With as much breath left as they could, the boy and Sanya sang the last verse at the top of their lungs, their faces turned red but the result wasn't bad.The only word she understood was 'Kira', especially since she didn't speak Orussian, but she was still fascinated by the tone and the melody itself, very cheerful and fast.
The two stopped to take a breath, smiling at having succeeded in the feat, while Francesca applauded happily. Virginia applauded too, without realizing it in time.
"Very good, congrats... Oh wait a-?" Panting, she shut her mouth with her hands, but the damage was already done, all three heard her.
Andrea was the first to reach for his weapon, followed by Francesca and finally by Sanya, who however immediately put it aside realizing that if she fired at that distance her rocket launcher they all would have died.
"Hands in the air! Identify yourself!" Andrea yelled, aiming at the rock."Don't shoot please I'm sorry!" She cried, afraid of being shot.
Sanya remembered this voice, it was that of a singer from the Luminous Witches. Sure, it would be a little strange to find out that of all the possible people there could be her, but why not try?
"V- Virginia? Is that you?".
