i'm in love with him, okay?

THE SECOND I TOLD SODAPOP ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED, he was quick to sign himself up as my self proclaimed "wing man". He was really just trying to make me feel better about everything. I guess there were plenty of fish in the sea, sure, but Sodapop was also hung up on Sandy for months after she left. Then again, they were together at one point and me and Ponyboy weren't.

Sodapop had taken a break from partying after he dropped out, but recently he'd been taking me out to parties, hoping that he'd successfully find somebody who was interested in me. He told me that I was too picky and wasn't interested in anyone, but in reality I just wasn't interested in the parties. They were never my thing. Every conversation felt forced, and Soda was never too far away striking conversations with what seemed like billions of girls all over him.

That type of stuff came easy to Soda, but he didn't date just anyone. He would have to really like them and make sure they didn't like him just for his looks or his reputation. That's what sucks about that, I think. You never know what people's intentions are. I know I'm not bad looking, but I'm not Sodapop Curtis. I was more of his shadow at those types of parties.

One Friday night, probably the fifth party Soda took me to without any luck, I was particularly fed up. Sodapop said even if I wasn't looking to date, I had to put myself out there at least. And yeah, I definitely wasn't looking to date if it wasn't Ponyboy. Maybe one day, but not that early. I wasn't sure Soda completely understood that.

The party was bustling inside. It was some party of one of Sodapop's friends. People immediately greeted him as he walked in and we stayed close to each other as we walked all the way in. It was a routine at this point. Soda was on the lookout for basically anyone my age. Pointing at each of them going "What about that one?" Every two seconds.

"Oh, what about that one? He's blonde. You like blonde." Sodapop pointed at a boy, I shrugged my shoulders, looking down at my cup. Soda wrapped an arm around me and I groaned as he pulled me forward. He smiled at the boy. "Hi, have you met Jess?" And immediately, he ran off.
