"so." ivory begins as she looks at the dinosaurs in complete awe, arthur watched the girl admire the dinosaurs in complete awe.
"yes ives?" he asks her, wanting to know what she was thinking so much about.
"if you had a pet dinosaur, what would you have?" she turns to him, taking her eyes away from the triceratops skull and looking at him.
"probably a triceratops as they're the biggest of the long-frilled chasmosaurine ceraropsians." he smiles at her as she rolls her eyes.
"you've just read that from the board behind me!" she argues, putting her hands on her hips as he laughs. it's true he did, but dinosaurs were never his forte. he cared more for the animals still around today.
"you caught me, probably a t-rex then." he says the simplest answer known to man kind which annoys her.
"that's too basic, plus if you did want a t-rex as a pet you would choose a daspletosaurus as it's teeth are larger and it's stronger meaning it's deadlier to protect you if it didn't kill you first." she complains but he doesn't listen.
arthur didn't realise just how nerdy she was, but getting to know her, he began to understand it. he found it really cute that she had such an interest for dinosaurs.
"what would you have as a pet then?" he asks, wanting to know what the 'expert' had to say.
"a troodon, one of - if not the fastest dinosaur to be discovered. they had the biggest brain for their head which made them intelligent and i could probably ride one places considering they were six and a half feet." she shrugs as he looks amazed that she thought about this.
"you clearly have too much time on your hands!" he laughs at her as she just smiles at him.
"or i would have gone into paleontology if i didn't get forced into a 'proper degree' although i did love midwifery." she looks at him with a hint of sadness is her voice that would have gone unnoticed by anyone else.
anyone except him.
"you ok?" he asks her and she just nods.
"yeah i'm fine don't worry about me." she smiles. a fake smile. he smiles back, trusting her but not believing her.
"any other dinosaurs you want to see?" he asks her and she shakes her head.
"it's fine we can move on to your nerdy stuff now!" she smiles as he grabs her hand and pulls her through the museum leading her to his favourite room.
"do you know i got measured here, and i'm just shy of 5 foot 11!" he says, not peeling his eyes away from the elephant. "because i would tell you i'm 6 foot but i feel like i shouldn't."
she laughs at this, finding it amusing that he got measured at the natural history museum. also she found it a little cute... well not a little.
"a bit like how your dream first date would be to the natural history museum?" she raises her eyebrow as he looks at her gobsmacked.
"i- we- this isn't a date!" he says in a panic state.
ivory in that moment feels her heart drop. she knew it wasn't a date, but apart of her wanted it to be. she wanted them to go on a cute date and have fun. but he saw her as a friend. she couldn't let him know.
"i'm only messing with you." she tries her best to maintain the smile that had been on her face all day, and she does.
"oh ok." he laughs awkwardly, turning back to the animals.
he too desperately wanted this to be a date, but he fucked it from the second he said it wasn't. why would she date a guy like him anyway? maybe chris was right. he shouldn't go for her.
