Chapter 29: Rainy Days

"It's beautiful," Jungkook murmured looking at the images of the bracelet on his laptop screen, "But Tae hyungie, isn't it pricey? I can't accept such an expensive gift." Tae frowned as he reached for Jungkook's face. "Kookie, please don't say that. I really want to gift you something priceless as a symbol of our relationship. Please let me," he begged, his lips forming a pout, the sight of which instantly melted Jungkook's heart. Jungkook sighed as he answered, "Fine. Just this once, Tae hyungie." Tae smiled as he gently planted a kiss on Jungkook's lips. He called the number for the Cartier showroom in Seoul. Jungkook watched as Tae excitedly placed the order. Seeing Tae's enthusiasm brought back memories of when Yugi took him ring shopping. Yugi was just as excited as Tae when he whisked him away to Tiffany & Co to pick out their wedding bands. Just when Jungkook was starting to feel comfortable in his relationship with Tae, a familiar distant fear started creeping in.

"Are you ready Kook?" Yugi asked over the phone. "Almost. Just give me a few minutes," Jungkook answered, "Why are you in such a rush? Where are you taking me, Yugi?" "You'll see," Yugi quipped, "It's a surprise and I know you'll like it. All right, I'll see you in a few minutes." Jungkook hung up and got ready. 'What is with him?' Jungkook thought to himself as he walked to the main entrance of his apartment building, 'Ever since we started seriously dating, he's been so ecstatic! Just seeing him happy makes me feel happy.' Yugi appeared a few minutes later and quickly stepped out of the car. He pulled Jungkook into a crushing hug before placing a kiss on his cheek. Jungkook smiled and followed him to the passenger side of the car. Yugi opened the door for him and closed it after he got in. 

"Where to?" Jungkook asked as they got on the road. "You'll see," Yugi answered cryptically, "When I ask you to, I want you to close your eyes." Jungkook nodded, wondering what Yugi was planning. A few minutes later, Yugi asked Jungkook to close his eyes and he obliged. He parked the car and led Jungkook up some stairs and through a set of double doors. Finally, he asked Jungkook to open his eyes. Jungkook was taken aback by what he saw. He was in a dark room and in front of him, under a spotlight, was Yugi on his knees holding out a red rose. "Kook, ever since I met you, I've known that you were the one for me. I cannot picture spending the rest of my life with anyone other than you. Will you do me the honor of spending the rest of your life with me? Will you marry me?" Yugi asked peering into Jungkook's large doe eyes. 

Jungkook didn't realize that he was crying until he felt tears slide down his face. Never in his life has he expected something like this would happen to him. He thought back to all that life had stolen from him - his parents, his happiness, his way of life. He remembered how his circumstances changed him so profoundly that he questioned if he would ever find happiness again. He looked at Yugi gazing at him with nothing but affection. He thought about how spending time with him allowed him to start hoping for a brighter future. How could he stray from the path that would eventually lead to happiness? How could he let go of the one person who dreamt of a future with him? He had no choice but to say yes. "Yes," Jungkook whispered as he reached out and grabbed the rose, "I will marry you, Yugi." 

Yugi got up and pulled Jungkook into a passionate embrace, kissing him on his forehead, nose, cheeks and neck before finally pulling away. Suddenly, the room was filled with the sound of applause. The room brightened and Jungkook realized that they were standing in the middle of a jewelry showroom. "Yugi?" Jungkook questioned, "What's happening?" "Kook, I don't want to waste any time," Yugi smiled, "I hoped that you would say yes. Thankfully, you did and now we can pick our wedding bands." Jungkook feeling overwhelmed by the situation just nodded in agreement. Yugi led him towards a private room where they had a personal salesperson showing them wedding bands. After looking at countless sets, Jungkook finally settled on The Charles Tiffany Setting Men's Engagement ring. "Perfect choice, my Love," Yugi commented.
