7. Born: Purpose Of War

Before I could go and talk with my other wives, I was met with Mahadev and Parvati maa.

"Mahadev. Devi Maa", I greeted and touched their feet for blessing.

"Kalyan ho putr. We are here to tell you something very important and a major change to be brought by you", Mahadev said.

I frowned. What could it be?

"You need to marry Draupadi, Karn", Mata said.

I looked taken aback by it. What did I just hear? Marry Draupadi? I couldn't believe it.

"She has to be born to marry Arjun", I said unbelievably. "Like it is said. Doesn't matter but she is born to marry a man with five qualities which Pandavas have", I said to them.

"Exactly Karn. And you have that five qualities", Mata said.

I flinched.

I pondered and yes. Indeed Maharathi Karn had those. Dharma, Strength, Archery, Looks and Intelligence. But how could I snatch my brother's love?

"You won't snatch anybody because you will marry Draupadi in the swayamvar itself", Mahadev said.

"But why do I need to do that? Draupadi would love Arjun. She was said to be partial for her love for him according to what I heard in my era", I said to them. Nothing made sense.

"Who is the purpose to destroy Aryavrat?" Mata asked sharply. "change its destiny?"

"Draupadi", I whispered in realisation.

"Exactly. And Draupadi's work will be done by you. That's why you reincarnated. But you will do it without any destruction. If her destiny is not changed, it will bring destruction", Mata explained.

She was right!

"But what if she didn't agree? She will reject me, I guess", I said feeling angry at that rejection.

"You need to think how will you turn down that rejection. I am sure you are that intelligent", Mahadev said.

"I can't certainly do anything if she rejects me", I said.

"Marriage by abduction is normal in this time unlike yours", Mahadev said calmly.

I widened my eyes.

Exactly what he was trying to imply.

"You are thinking correct. You need to do anything that is possible to change the story. To make your reincarnation successful", Mahadev said.

And before I could say anything, both of them vanished.

I couldn't believe what they said.

Marry Draupadi?

I went all lost towards the room where Duryodhan was to see they had built a castle. Shakuni mama, Dushasan, Duryodhan, Ashwatthama and now me, were the ones there.

I widened my eyes.

"Mitr. Come. Did you talk with the princesses?" Duryodhan asked with concern.

"And what is it?" I asked controlling my anger.

"Varnavrat. The plan to burn Pandavas and their mother to death", he said with hate but it went into pain when he mentioned my maa.

He did have affection for maa.

"And you are saying it so proudly? What is wrong with you? We are not going ahead with this", I said. "if you consider my opinions to be the best out of all, then it's a clear no".

"That's the only option mitr", Duryodhan said. "pitashree is pressurized by Pitahmah to declare Yudhister as heir".

"King can be the one whom people love. Prove to the people that you are the best", I said strongly.

"They already love Yudhister", Duryodhan said.

"They love him not because he is the eldest but because he's the most simple one out of all of you and always respects everyone", I said.

"But like everyone else, he has his own flaws which are hidden. Bring them out", I advised.

"How?" Everyone asked this time.

"Remember when my brother--" my voice trailed. I sighed. "remember when he was brought to be punished. I had requested Yudhister to speak but his dharma overpowered his sense of knowing what is right and what is wrong", I said seriously.

"This trait is disastrous for a king as in the chase of protecting dharma, they can take unjust decisions which can bring destruction", I said. I remembered Dyut sabha where poor Draupadi was insulted.

Just thinking it boiled my blood.

"You just need to prove that Yudhister has this dark trait and the people will grow hesitant about their safe future in his hands. And then show how you are better. Start participating in state affairs. Start meeting the people. Look for alliances with those kingdoms that can be beneficial. Grab them before Pandavas and make the kingdom stronger. Then no matter who in the royalty says Yudhister should be the king, people will choose you and in a kingdom, my friend, people are the strongest support", I said.

I kept a hand on his shoulder. "Mama. Don't you feel we should take the chance that improves our future prospects?" I asked sharply and glared at him. I need to talk with him.

His dream of destroying Kuruvansh needs to end.

Shakuni mama seemed reluctant but seeing my look hardening, he gulped and nodded. "Child, Karn is right. He's the wisest out of us all and we should do what he says", mama said and I smirked.

I signalled everyone to leave.

"What are you thinking?" Duryodhan asked once they left us friends alone. I sighed and closed my eyes.

Draupadi is soon going to arrive.

How could I marry her?

She would love Arjun. This would be against her will. How could I do this with that innocent soul?

"I will tell you when the right time comes. I just need a hug right now", I whispered.

"Forever ready", Duryodhan grinned and we hugged each other.

I firmed my hold on him.

I would do anything to save you from being a sacrificial lamb in this fire of revenge of your own mama, Duryodhan.

And I promise you that.

And I promise to protect my brothers from this till my last breath.

I am sorry Arjun. But I will be the one who will marry Draupadi. I wouldn't let you go to your destruction.

I would erase all chances of that Dyut sabha happening. And that will happen when Draupadi becomes Angarani.
