I awoke to an alarm blaring in my ears. I groggily turned rolled over, turning away from the source of the sound towards a source of warmth. The warmth moved, rapidly sitting upwards, causing me to realize I was not alone. Suddenly more awake, I sat up as well and realized I was not in my own room, but I had fallen asleep in Logans. "Uhm, good morning" I said tiredly, my eyes wide in surprise.
Logan side eyed me momentarily, getting up from the bed and striding over to his dresser, taking out a shirt. "Lets not make a habit of that" he said referring to our temporary cohabitation, the tone of his voice stinging.
"Oh, uh yeah sorry. I didn't mean to" I said awkwardly, trying to ignore his harsh tone, "I'll head out then."
"Training at 12:00, in the danger room" he informed, focusing on trying to find something in his dresser.
I paused a moment, observing him. Last night he hadn't seemed so closed off, he felt open, but now the infamously rugged, no-nonsense X-men had put his walls back up. I left his room, a frown on my face. The interaction had left me feeling vulnerable, and gross. I felt like I opened myself up to someone finally, only for them to shut me out. I looked up towards my room, seeing Storm standing outside, waiting for me.
"Hey, (Y/n) right?" She started, her eyebrow raised.
"Yeah" I replied with a sigh.
"It's nice to finally meet you, I'm Ororo, but you probably know me as Storm," She introduced herself.
"The feeling is mutual," I looked in her arms, realizing she had been carrying a pile of clothing. "Need a hand with those?" I asked
"Oh yeah, these are yours actually. Professor had me head back to the wreckage and and grab you some of your clothes" She explained.
"Oh! thank you, I appreciate that. I was starting to wonder what I was going to be wearing" I confided with a chuckle. "Here, can just set them on the bed" I instructed, opening the door to my bed.
We walked in, and she set the clothes down, and turned towards the dresser. "So how do you like your clothes organized, let me give you a hand." She offered, smiling.
"You really don't have to-"
"I insist" she interrupted, causing me to smile.
We starting sorting out the clothes, before I started conversation, "So do you prefer being called Storm or Ororo?" I asked.
"My close friends call me by my first name, so I guess time will tell," She joked, and we started placing my clothes into their respective drawers, before she continued, "So why were you in Logans room?"
"Yesterday was rough, and he offered me some comfort" I responded, focusing on putting my shirts away.
"Comfort, eh?" Storm smirked.
My face flushed and I continued with the laundry, "No, not anything like that. We were just talking and we both ended up falling asleep. We're just friends, I don't even know if we are friends anymore, he woke up and kicked me out" I insisted, shaking my head.
"Don't take it too personally, he doesn't let people get too close" she explained, putting on my own sweaters on a hanger, "I'm surprised he let you get as close as he did honestly" she confessed.
"Yeah, I don't really know what I expected to happen. It was just nice that someone wanted to listen, I guess I just overstepped" I confided, putting the last item away, "Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it" I smiled, turning towards her.
"Yeah, don't worry about it," she returned the gesture, "By the way, the professor wants to see you in his office, the were the meeting was at yesterday. I need to head out, I've got a class to teach, I'll see you around" She finished, turning around and heading out the door.
I said a short farewell before continuing out the door, eventually finding myself back to the professors office. I knocked on the door before opening it to see the professor awaiting me. "How are you feeling (Y/n)?" He asked.
"I'm feeling better" I answered with a nod, "I am feeling a bit more aware of others emotions, like I'm starting to be able to really feel when there's a shift" I confided.
The professor nodded, reflecting for a moment. "So we are aware of your ability to absorb ones emotions, and if you go far enough you can drain them completely," He thought out loud pensively, "I believe your 'mind fog' ability is just that but on a smaller scale. If you continue to practice and grow your ability you may be able to use it for emotional manipulation and emotional connections. The latter may already be true as you said you are able to sense others emotions and feel a shift," He continued to hypothesize, the cogs in his head turning.
I nodded, accepting his suspicions, starting to feel antsy at people able to uncover more about myself. "Thank you professor, I'm very happy to be figuring this out, even if it meant uprooting some trauma" I chuckled sarcastically. "Oh, how's the whole Magneto situation? Any luck locating the artifact" I asked.
"So far our only lead is some ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics that speak about a tablet that can be used to alter reality located within the pyramids. We're planning on sending out a team to ensure its location and secure it in order to neutralize it, hopefully before Magneto does." The Professor concluded, worry momentarily emanating off of him,
"I'm sure it will all work out, you guys always figure it out in the end" I reassured, hoping to ease his mind.
"Thank you (Y/n)" he gave a smile, pausing, "I can tell you're eager to help, I assure you by the time you're ready we will have many more world saving missions you can aid us in" He jived, reading my mind.
I gave a jokingly stern look, "I thought we'd talked about the mind reading Professor" I chuckled, looking towards the clock on the wall. My eyes widened, time sure flies fast.
"Do you mind telling me where the Danger room is?"
