I looked up at Magneto's maniacal grin, my eyes widened as his gaze sharpened. With a casual wave of the hand, metal chains slithered from the walls like serpents, coiling around my body with a cold, unyielding grip forcing me into a seated position against a wall. My breathe hitched in my throat and I began to twist and yank against the restraints, my breathe coming sharp, ragged gasps.
A sinister chuckle arose from the figure, and the restraints started to tightened against me, the pressure becoming unbearable.
"There is no use in fighting it my dear" he stepped towards me, looming me menacingly, "You're helping whether you like it or not."
He reached into the pocket of his cloak, revealed a large metal amulet. The elongated gem was black as the void, adorned with what looked like ancient, intricate runes and symbols on its surface. The dark metal that framed the jewel matched intensity, the runic engravings spiraled and intertwined all along its exterior.
He waved his hand, a pedestal with matching ancient symbols emerged from the ground in front of me, and he set the delicate gem atop. "Now, activate it" he ordered plainly, a cruel excitement laced his voice.
"I-I don't know how" I stammered, my gaze shifted towards the figure, fear resonating in my eyes.
"I SAID ACTIVATE IT" He roared, starting to tighten the restraints around me.
I yelped, overwhelmed by the searing pain as tight chains began digging into my skin. Wincing with the relentless tightening of the restrained, I forced my eyes open and I started to focus my energy onto the amulet. I concentrated my fear, anger and worry directly in the gems direction. The runes etched into the base of the pedestal started to glow an eerie blood-red, the deep color steadily creeping up the length of the pedestal.
Despite the persistent pain from the chains, I pressed on, reaching into the deepest depths of my own mind in order to fully drive the color to reach the top of the pedestal. When the crimson color reached the top, the dull black gem responded, igniting with a pulsating glow that mirrored the violent red color of the runes, spreading along the symbols that trimmed the amulet.
A deep chuckle escaped the mans lips, rippling through the room. He lifted the glowing amulet from the pedestal, and raised it into the light, admiring its eerie glow. Magnetos eyes glinted with malevolent triumph. He looked down towards me, his lips curled into a cruel smirk, "You see my dear, power bens to those who dare to command it. Your reluctance only delayed the inevitable."
With a level of grandeur he placed the stone around his neck. As the amulet settled against his chest, the glowing red from the ancient runes began to pulse in sync with his heart beat. The room began to tremble, the air thickening with a dark and sinister energy. The dark metal amulet seemed to melt into his skin, the glowing tendrils weaved their way into his veins, spreading through his body like a wildfire.
His eyes rolled into the back of his head, as a surge of power overwhelmed him. The lights began to flicker and a violent wind whipped through the chamber, despite there being no source. The metal walls seemed to cave in and twist with an earthshattering shriek the foundation of the building threatening to collapse. Suddenly the tremors ceased, the walls returned to their former glory and the lights dying out completely. His power settled and the runic symbol's had fulling integrated themselves into his skin, causing him to glow sinisterly from the inside out; he appeared otherworldly.
The very fabrics of reality had rippled around him, the world recoiling from the very presence of him. He opened his mouth to speak, and it resonated with an unearthly echo, seemingly amplified by the ancient power that coursed through him. "With this, I will reshape the world to me image, and those who defied me will kneel... or cease to exist." His eyes bore into mine before his evil grin grew, "You better hope that those X-Men of yours don't try anything heroic," He warned, the only thing illuminating his face was the glowing of the stone.
"I expect you to keep this running at full power if you expect me to consider allowing your friends a chance at life" his voice dripped with menace, and he stepped onto the platform which lifted him, trapping me alone.
I could sense as Magnetos presence moving further away, whether it be because of the shear amount of power he held or the emotional tie I held with the amulet. My heart pounded in my chest, still reeling from the shock of his transformation. I felt the distance between me and the amulet grow, and the glow of the pedestal began to dim. "Shit" I sputtered to myself, forcing myself to focus my energy to the amulet. But the further it got the more difficult it became.
I to winced in pain as the chains continued to cut into my skin, offering no relief. The sounds I could here where from the ancient machinery that kept this place running, occasionally they faltered due to whatever events were occurring above me. Each time they paused, the ground trembled, causing the walls creaked and groaned, causing my breath to hitch.
I continued to give myself to the amulet, the red glow of the pedestal being my only source of light, yet it only illuminated the eerie shadows in the corners of the room. There were no thoughts that could help me distract myself, I could hardly even think. Any distraction caused the light from the pedestal to falter. Time started to become meaningless, the minutes felt like hours, the hours felt like days.
I remained shackled to the wall, the chains biting into my flesh with every faint breath I took. The air was thick with the scent of damp earth and cold metal, it was unyielding, pressing down on me from all sides. My vision began to blur, causing the faint glow of the pedestal to weaken, the relentless drain pulled me deeper into exhaustion.
The silence of the room was defining, being occasionally broken by the hum of machinery and the muffled sounds of the chaos above. I could hear the faint echo's of battle, muffled sounds of familiar voices rang through the walls, but they were distant, unreachable, like they were in a different world all together.
I tried to focus on the voices, at least as much as I could before the light began to fade again. They gave me a slight sense of hope, but it was hard to hold onto it when the only thing that surrounded me was a cold, empty darkness. I felt like I losing myself, being swallowed by this unstoppable darkness. My thoughts began to drift as the amulet continued to draw out everything I had. Visions of my past appeared, sadness, anger and fear all evident in every memory. I gave it all to the amulet.
I began to think of my friends, those who made me feel like I belonged. It was nearly impossible to believe that not long ago I wasn't bound to the amulet, forced to fuel a power I didn't understand. I missed him. I thought of his fierce eyes, his unwavering determination. I could almost feel him, his anger, his fear and his worry. I wondered if they were looking for me, working to save me, if the voices above were really them or just my imagination.
The amulet continued to draw from my emotions, piece by piece it was leaving me numb. The light of the pedestal faltered with me, it too struggling to survive. My eyes grew heavy, the darkness creeping around me like a cold, relentless tide that threatened to pull me under.
I don't know how much longer I can last.
