When I finally awoke I was in a familiar, blue-toned room. Bandages coated what felt like every inch of my aching body, wires were tapped onto my chest and machines buzzed and beeped around me. I sat up in a panic, vaguely remembering my last conscious moments.
"(Y/n)?" A worried voice sounded from beside the table I was stationed on.
I turned my head to see Logan stood beside me, concern pouring out from him. My brows furrowed in confusion. "What are you doing here?" I asked, my tone cold.
His expression tightened, at the sharpness of my voice, but he didn't flinch. He stayed rooted beside me, his eyes trying to make sense of my expression.
"I wasn't going to leave you," he muttered, his voice gruff but with a touch of something softer underneath.
I frowned, recalling the memories of our past interactions weeks ago. "You know, Logan, I'm pretty sure you already did" I replied, averting my gaze as I swung my legs over the edge of the table, the movement sending a sharp pain through my body.
He instinctively reached out to help, but I flinched away, my cold stare stopping him in his tracks. His hand froze mid air and a frown deepened on his face as the air between us grew heavy. He opened his mouth, as if to say something, but hesitated, the words dying on his lips. Slowly, he lowered his hand, retreating.
"I'll... I'll leave you be then." he finally said, his voice barely above a whisper, the tension in the room palpable.
I kept my mouth shut, focusing my attention on my hands that laid in my lap as his footsteps echoed softly, growing fainter with each step. I looked up momentarily, part of me aching for him to stay as I watch him turn the corner, his figure disappearing from view.
I took a breath, resting my head in my hands. Ever since that one morning, talking with him had been always tense, there was no way to avoid it. Living in the same building was a challenge, I felt too awkward just being in the same room as him. Why had he waited in the first place? Why did he even care?
Lifting my head, I looked down at the bandages that spanned the length of my body . Curiosity got the best of me and I carefully unwound a section. I winced as I removed the cloth from my bare skin, revealing the long, angry gash. Presumably, similar streaks marred the skin beneath the other bandages. I hope they don't scar.
Footsteps echoed once more, causing my heart to flutter with a quiet hope that he had maybe returned. White hair was the first thing I saw as Ororo entered the room. "What was that about?" she asked, her gaze curious.
I gaze her a quizzical look. "I asked Logan in the hall if you were up, and he just grumbled and kept walking." she explained, coming to stand beside me.
I shrugged, uncertain about the entire situation myself. "He was here waiting, I don't know why" I paused, not really knowing how to explain the tension that occurred just moments ago, "It was... weird, I guess."
She paused a moment, leaning on the table before questioning, "Do you remember how you got out?"
"Not really" I confessed, "I'm guessing one of you guys saved me. I don't really remember much; the amulet took a lot out of me, so it's all a big blur"
Her face softened, as she grasped the whole situation. She took a moment to find the right words before continuing. "He saved you" she started, causing my eyes to widen.
"Out of obligation, though, right?" I questioned, trying to brace myself for an answer.
"No, he wanted to, it was almost like he needed to," she replied with a slight shrug. "When Scott and Kurt came out without you, he was worried, and furious at them for leaving you behind. It took a lot to calm him down," she explained, recalling the events of the day, "he said he 'wasn't going to let you face this alone,' and almost as soon as we landed the jet again he was off to find you. I guess he got you to calm down, because the amulet stopped working, and then later he emerged from the collapsing lair with you in his arms. There wasn't a scratch on you from the escape" she said, her filled with awe, "He took everything that came his way and got you out safe. He absolutely refused to let you go, and he hadn't left your side since we got back."
