Fitz bandaged himself up as Elwin entered. "How's Sophie?" Fitz asked quietly. "She's fine. Just a few burns and cuts. But she'll probably be staying." Elwin continued. "Makes sure she have enough sleep, I just gave her a detox elixir."
Fitz put his shirt back on, carrying a cauldron of ingredients to where Sophie was.
"I didn't know that you work here." Sophie said, trying to break the silence.
"Nah. I'm just here being an apperntice, you know, taking care of patients after Elwin finished work."
"What's that?" Sophie leaned closer, curiously looking in the cauldron. Fitz gently pushed Sophie's head away. "It's dangerous." Sophie silently watched Fitz pour the last ingredient as white smoke emerged. He carefully poured it in a jar and placed it carefully on the ground.
"Back to my question: What's that." Sophie said again.
"Cure-alls" Fitz answered as he cleaned up the messy desk surface. "Hope you won't use it in your future."
"What do you mean?"
"It's a kind of sedative, a wickedly strong one, mostly used on people who are half their way to heaven."
Sophie shivered.
"Did I scare you?" Fitz asked.
Sophie nodded. Fitz petted her head gently as Sophie leaned closer to him, enjoying the way Fitz's fingers brushed her scalp.
"Fitz." Sophie called.
"Sophie?"
Sophie stood up slowly, dropping her arms around Fitz's waist. She leaned closer as her traitorous heart did a backflip. She buried her face into his shoulder. Fitz's smell filled her lungs.
"Fitz... Do you still like me?" The words felt strange on Sophie's tounge, why would he say yes, after she ignored him for two whole years? Sophie feel his warmth on her neck, traveling upwards and cupped her cheeks. This wasn't expected. As their faces were closer and closer to each other, Sophie felt Fitz's hot breath on her cheek and her heart couldn't help but fluttered crazily. Sophie closed her eyes the same time Fitz closed his. He gently pressed his soft lips against Sophie's, their lips moved in sync, Sophie was sure that she's crimson red. They finally broke apart, both panting heavily. They stayed there in silence and Sophie broke the cold silence.
"Do you regret not being Cognates anymore?" Sophie asked.
"I won't if you don't." Fitz gave her a simple reply.
"I... " Sophie stammered.
Fitz's teal eyes stared at her.
"I want to fix it."
