"I'm sorry, I had no other choice!" It was either this or ruining your friendship, why can't you get that!?
"Knowing you, it was probably your own fault for getting driven into that corner," Zachary says judgmentally, "And knowing you," he turns towards Evan, "You shouldn't have believed it."
"Why, aren't you glad I do?" Evan asks.
"No!" Zachary shouts, before thinking, "Well... kind of."
"You missed me, didn't you?"
"A-As if! I'm not your girlfriend!"
All three of us sit in silence for a few moments after that comment.
"But you did miss me."
"A little bit, happy?"
"I think I like the new Zach better," Evan sighs.
"T-Thanks, haha..." I chuckle.
"You don't need to be so modest about it," Evan advises.
"Yes she does! Actually, that shouldn't even be a compliment! I'm the only Zachary Marlowe here!"
"You don't look like Zachary Marlowe, but you sure act like him."
Zachary gives him a glare.
"Y'know what? I'll take that as a compliment," he decides.
"I don't think you know how those work," Evan mutters.
Once again we sit in silence for a few moments. Are they expecting me to say something? How am I supposed to interrupt these two? Seeing Zachary having a conversation with Evan gives me a way to compare my performance for the first time, and wow... I'm surprised that Evan hasn't found out sooner... I guess that when your friend starts acting off, a typical person wouldn't jump to the conclusion that they've swapped bodies with someone else.
"Anyways, you two were going to research again, right?" Evan asks both of us.
"Yeah, and you better lend us a hand in this now that you know," Zachary replies.
"Didn't I say I liked the new Zach better?"
"You weren't serious about that," Zachary scoffs back, "right?"
"I thought you knew me," Evan smirks, "All joking aside though, I can help scour through books and websites, but I don't think that'd help much. Also, it's not as if the world has stopped revolving, y'know? I still have to go to work, you still have to study for each other's exams, hell you might need to enrol into each other's colleges if I may be so frank."
How did he say all that so casually?
"Why are you getting so depressing with us all of a sudden?"
"I'm just looking at it from a worst case scenario," Evan clears up, "If this swap doesn't resolve itself soon-"
"It will, because we're going to resolve it. Ain't no way I'm spending any longer in this body," Zachary reassures him.
"Oh yeah?"
"B-Boys, maybe we should stop talking about that stuff and get to researching?" I pipe in.
"Sure," they both agree synchronised, "Oh by the way, before we forget," Evan continues.
He pulls out his phone and slides it towards Zachary whilst assuming a leaning pose on the table and a seductive expression.
"May I have your number?" he asks overdramatically.
"I thought I wasn't your type," Zachary responds unimpressed as he reaches for my bag.
Zachary gives my number to Evan, and with that settled we finally begin our research.
