you and your friends arrive at taylor's house a little after 9.

"how do you know where she lives? and since when are you that close to her?" jenna asks in disbelief, her eyes widening at the sight of taylor's house.

"a magician never reveals their secrets," you reply, stepping out of the car and locking it once jenna and charlie have gotten out.

you knock on the door, and greg opens it.

"hi, greg," you say casually, as though greeting an old friend.

"hello, ms. y/l/n," he responds, stepping aside to let you in.

"i told you, you can call me y/n," you remind him as you walk past.

"and i told you i wouldn't do that, miss," he replies with a polite smile, closing the door behind you.

"taylor and some friends are in the living room," greg informs you. you thank him and turn to lead the way.

"we're basically best friends," you whisper to jenna and charlie.

"no, we're not," greg says, deadpan, and you smile, amused by his seriousness.

you walk into the living room, and taylor notices you immediately. she excuses herself from the group and heads over to greet you.

unaware of her approach, you're still chatting with your friends when taylor sneaks up behind you, wrapping her arms around you and resting her chin on your shoulder.

you turn your head slightly, recognizing her, and with a smile, you cup her face with one hand before turning to hug her back.

"you made it!" she says as you pull away from the hug.

"yeah, sorry we're late. there was some traffic," you explain.

"that's a lie," charlie interjects. "you took forever to get off the couch and get ready."

"can you shut up? you don't need to call me out every time," you snap at him, rolling your eyes.

"didn't want to come?" taylor teases, her eyes on you.

"no, i did. i told you, though, this is usually my bedtime," you joke, feigning a pout.

"you didn't have to come if you wanted to stay home."

"no, it's fine. i'll try to stay awake as long as i can. besides, they would've killed me if i said no to you," you say, nodding toward your friends.

taylor smiles. "well, if you get tired, you can crash in my room until you're ready to leave."

you smile gratefully. "thanks."

"i'll leave you to it for a bit. i'm just going to grab a drink and use the bathroom," you say before walking away.

five minutes later, you're back, joining jenna and charlie, who are chatting with gracie and audrey—two of the few people you know here. meeting new famous people isn't high on your list of priorities tonight.

"hey, guys," you announce as you approach.

gracie smiles and hugs you. "hey, y/n! this is audrey, my best friend."

"hi, y/n," audrey says, holding out her hand.

"audrey, nice to meet you," you reply, shaking her hand.

the group chats for a while, everyone with drinks in hand. charlie and jenna are planning to go heavy tonight, but since you're driving and don't like drinking much, you settle for a beer.

"hey, y/n?" taylor calls out from across the room. you turn to her.

"can you come here? i want you to meet someone," she says. you excuse yourself and take a deep breath, not particularly thrilled about meeting new people, before walking over to her.
