Hanni
Being the girlfriend of an athlete never felt this good, my ex; Anton. He was part of the boys soccer team. And my relationship with him was completely trash. At times it was just a necessary relationship.
I never wanted to admit it when I was with him. But after we broke up, I really started to see how shitty of a person he truly was and just how much he caged me. He wasn't what I thought love was.
My relationship with him had always gone downhill since the start, I don't even know how I could've ever really set my eyes on him.
Minji held my hand with pride as we walked through the hallways of our school. She was talking to me about her game tonight and stuff. But I wasn't listening, not because I didn't care about it.
It was more because of the feeling I felt inside my chest as I looked at her. Her brown orbs looking directly at my own, not caring about the world around them. I was her everything, the sparkle in her eyes was just filled with love.
"So yeah, I want you to wear my jersey number." I looked at Minji a bit surprised, he never asked me to do such thing, or even wanted me to. And it was clear that my past relationship might affect the one I have with Minji now.
"I know you'll do cheer at the beginning, but after? If that's okay with you, I'm more than happy to just have you support me through the crowd." She said with a big smile on her face.
I leaned to her, our shoulders pressing against one another. Minji placed a kiss on the top of my head as we kept walking. Peoples eyes watching our every step. But I didn't care, much less Minji did.
Her hold on my hand felt more than just that. It felt as if she was holding my heart. She was protecting and taking care of it. Making sure to not break it with a wrong touch.
"I'll wear your jersey number, during cheer. We're allowed to support our significant others like that." I said and Minji seemed to beam even more as she scrunched her nose. "I'm happy to hear that, I'll go get my extra jersey from my locker after school and give it to you." She said.
I gave her a nod as we finally reached the cafeteria where it had seemed to go silent as me and Minji stood at the entrance. It was a little uncomfortable, some people give Minji the dirtiest of looks but she doesn't seem to care. She definitely brags about being with me and I find it cute.
Minji tugged on my hand and dragged me towards where Haerin and Danielle were seated, but then we saw them being all lovey-dovey so we decided to leave them alone. So instead we made our way to the back of the cafeteria but what I did not expect was to bump in to said ex.
Minji knew I dated Anton, they were all part of the same friend group because of Haerin since she's part of the captain of the girls soccer team. And Minji said that Anton was definitely not happy with her. "Hello, Hanni." He said, looking at my hand that held Minji's tightly. Anton was never affectionate, and I learned to deal with it.
I didn't say anything as I leaned closer to Minji. I wasn't scared of him, I just didn't want to interact with him. Our break up was bad, probably the worst. And we definitely didn't end in good terms.
Minji looked down at me briefly and then looked up at Anton. "And hello to you too, Minji." She was tense but didn't say anything. "I see your relationship is going well." He said, there was a mock tone that laced his voice.
"It's not your business, Anton." Minji said, she was now in her all protective mode. He raised his hands up in surrender as he made a face. "Woah there, I'm not going to take your girl...that was mine first." Minji never got mad, but that look in her face told me that it would get ugly if he didn't shut up.
I looked around trying to get Haerin's attention but she's too focused on my cousin to really notice me. Damn those two!
By now a crowd was starting to form and I didn't know what to do. Minji was trying t keep herself in control for me but it wasn't working. Anton was provoking her.
And this is exactly why I didn't want to be with him anymore, he only provoked people. He always like to have problems with others and it dragged me down with him every damn time he wanted to pick a fight with someone.
"She's not a trophy to go claiming around, Anton. She's a woman, with feelings. And that woman you used to brag about isn't yours anymore. She's under my care and protection." Minji said, holding my hand tightly.
"Oh, please. As if she'd truly focus on you. I'm better than you, Hanni knows it." He turned to look at me and I threw him a glare. "Don't be bitter, Anton. Just because I'm loving her better than you ever did, doesn't mean for you to be bitter. I said I was sorry for getting with her but I love her and that's the one thing I don't and will never apologize for." The way she was standing up to him had me falling for her even more.
Her words made my heart melt. She didn't need to throw a punch, or get in to a fight. She was calm despite the clear anger.
"She was mine first, it's okay if you want my sloppy seconds." I let out a gasp as Minji was no longer by my side but now holding Anton's shirt in her balled up fists. "Speak about her with respect. And then you still wonder why she left you. And as much as your pride doesn't want to hear it, I'm better than you. And Hanni is mine, in more ways than one." Minji let him go with a shove.
Anton threw her a glare. "How could you set your eyes on my ex?" Minji let out a sigh as she slowly stepped back and brought me in to her arms. "She's your ex, it wasn't my intention, as I said before. I'm sorry but I love her. You and much less anyone else can change that." Minji looked around making sure people understood that.
I hugged Minji back and that seemed to piss Anton more, and I'm glad it did. He treated me like shit and he deserved to see me happier with someone else. He deserved to burn in the wrath of the love me and Minji shared.
Minji was holding me in a way that made me feel safe and secure. I knew that Minji would never act like the immature kid Anton acted like. She was serious about everything, especially me.
Anton wanted to fight but a tall figure stood in front of him. "Leave the love birds alone, you ugly bastard." My jaw dropped as Minji let out a smile at seeing Yujin stand up to him. Yujin who is dating Wonyoung...Danielle's ex.
And with the distraction she offered, Minji dragged me through the crowd, far away from the drama and everyone. A deep part of her knew that I needed to be away from it all.
Once we reached an empty classroom, she brought me in to her arms, whispering soft words of comfort and apologies for her actions.
I couldn't deny it anymore.
She has a hold of my heart, it's all hers.
