The dusty road stretched endlessly before them, and as the car sped toward the Ross mansion, Luke’s mind was racing, tangled in a storm of emotions. He had been running for so long—away from his family, away from the truth—but now, there was no more running. Everything had led him back to this moment. They were running late by a whole 15 minutes from the two hours they had asked for.
"We can’t turn back now," Zack said from the driver’s seat, his voice tense but steady. Beside him, Melanie glanced at Luke, worry etched across her face.
"You don’t have to do this alone, Luke," she said softly. "We’re here for you."
Luke nodded, though he barely heard her words. His thoughts were consumed by the weight of what lay ahead. His father—Chris—was a monster in so many ways. The things he had done, the lies he had spun, had nearly destroyed Luke’s entire life. And yet, deep down, Luke knew this confrontation was about more than just revenge. It was about closure.
As they neared the outskirts of the city, Melanie’s phone rang and she showed him who was calling. Luke glanced at the caller ID—it was Bridget.
"Where are you?" she demanded as soon as he answered, her voice sharp with urgency. "Dad’s condition is getting worse. He doesn’t have much time."
Luke clenched his jaw. "I’m coming," he said, his voice flat.
"Luke—" Bridget’s voice softened. "He’s still our father. No matter what he’s done, you need to be here regardless of your anger and hatred for him. Do it for mom if not for me."
Luke hung up without another word. Bridget’s plea hung in the air, stirring the conflict in his chest. Could he really face, let alone speak, to the man who had destroyed everything?
"She’s right," Melanie said quietly, as if reading his thoughts. "Whatever happens, this is your chance to face him. To get the answers you need…..If he doesn’t kill you almost immedietly that is.",she said the last bit barely in a whisper as she sat back in her seat.
Luke stared out the window, his mind flashing back to the events that had brought him to this point. The memory loss, Tyler’s secret coma, the years of manipulation, the death of his best friend… Chris had orchestrated it all, thinking he could control his family like pieces on a chessboard. But now the game was ending. The title of father/dad was something he revoked from him, clearly he did not deserve it or even appreciate it one bit. His govermnent name is what he decided to be ddressing him as from now on.
The car pulled up to the Ross estate, and Luke’s heart sank as he saw the familiar iron gates. The mansion loomed ahead, its cold stone walls as imposing as ever. Luke hadn’t set foot here in months, not since he had discovered the truth about his father’s betrayal, not since the car accident. Now, it felt like walking into a tomb—a place haunted by secrets and shadows.
They parked, and Luke stepped out, his legs feeling heavier with each step he took toward the front door. Zack and Melanie followed, but Luke held up a hand.
"This is something I need to do on my own," he said, his voice firm.
Zack hesitated but nodded. "We’ll be right here."
Luke pushed open the door and entered the mansion, the familiar smell of wood polish and expensive cologne hitting him like a wave. The house was eerily silent, save for the soft ticking of the grandfather clock in the foyer. Everything was just as he remembered it—perfect, pristine, and utterly lifeless.
As he moved through the halls, memories assaulted him—Christmas mornings, family dinners, moments that had once seemed so perfect, now tainted by the knowledge of what Chris had been doing behind the scenes. He could hear the faint whispers and feel the stares of their servants as he passed by them not at all letting it bother him because he had a goal in mind.
Bridget was in the corridor pacing back and forth , starting to get aggitated by Luke’s tardiness. "You are late, you know how I fel about keeping time. Anyways dad’s upstairs waiting for you, just hear him out and be careful. His state is fragile."
Luke gave a curt nod and started toward the staircase, but Bridget grabbed his arm. "Luke, wait."
He stopped, glancing back at her.
"You need to know something," she said, her voice shaky. "Before you see him, you need to understand that Dad… he regrets it. He regrets everything."
Luke’s expression hardened. "Does he? Or is that just another lie to make me feel sorry for him?"
Bridget shook her head, tears welling in her eyes. "I know it’s hard to believe, but it’s true. Whatever hatred you have for him… it won’t change that He loves you and wants to make things right. He already apologized to mom and I. We gave him a chance,so should you,please.."
Luke pulled his arm free. "I don’t hate him anymore, Bridget. I just need to know why.I am calm, I just want to talk to him, I won’t do anything."
Bridget watched him go, her gaze filled with sadness. She wanted to stop him, to warn him that this wouldn’t bring the closure he was seeking—but she knew Luke needed to do this on his own.
As Luke ascended the stairs, his heart pounded harder. Each step felt like a step toward something inevitable, something final. The hallway leading to Chris’s room was lined with old family photos—images of a life that had once seemed perfect, now shattered by the truth. One thing he noticed though was that all his pictures were taken down, only the family photos he took with them remained, even then they added up to three small ones.
He reached the door to his father’s room and paused. His hand hovered over the doorknob, his mind racing with everything he wanted to say, everything he needed to hear.
Taking a deep breath, Luke pushed open the door.
