It's hard to balance today
With the weights from yesterday.
These anchors hold still the gates
To keep oceans from spilling over.
It is not a matter of what to say
But rather having the space to say it,
A place to unburden shoulders
Or seek safe harbor.
Yet feeling words mouthed out
Chokes the breath before
The utterance of a peep.
A jeweled acorn lodges between
Vocal cords and suddenly
The canary can no longer sing. It's hard to weigh today
With the impact of tomorrow.
Words create a blank polaroid
Suddenly shaking to saturate
To show the scene as it's set.
Cinema created ratings to warn
'heavy impact ahead, ready up!'
What impact is taken from sincere lips
May be more than the audience
Was ever meant to handle.
Yet when the story unfolds,
And eventually the scene explodes
The canary will learn not to sing
To not distract from the show.
