countdowns

2 0 0

Seconds, minutes, hours, days
Blinks, sighs - how long, do you think?
Excitement burbles and churns
Tactile tingles tumble inside me.

Torture, pressure, aches inside
Expectations pile and soon
It's days, hours, minutes, seconds
Tingles turn twisted, ripping and popping.

I cannot wait-
Please give me more time;
Take me away from here;
Wait, there's more to be done

A sentence of time
Patience and polishing up skills
The air has been suffocating
There was no end in sight.

Yet as time continued to count down
And carries onward still
The light came in to view
And soon hope took flight again

Countdowns can signal beginnings
They can also signify ends.
Interspersing joy in darkness
Leaves the air pink, soft - a new calm.
