The plane feels much smaller than the spacious private jet we were just on with rows of three seats on either side of the aisle.
Mia, Yumin and I are sitting together, while ironically, Lisa is seated next to the two boys.
I glance over my shoulder towards the back of the plane, where they're seated. The boys are visibly tense, their bodies stiff and eyes darting nervously as they sit beside Lisa, who's wedged between them. She's leaning back in her seat, arms crossed, her expression hard and unyielding. I can tell she's barely restraining herself from snapping at them. Just as I start to turn away, Lisa catches me staring. Her harsh gaze softens when our eyes meet, and I offer her a small, reassuring smile. She nods subtly before I turn back around.
Thankfully, this flight will be quick—only three more hours. But I can't wait to get home—ever since moving into my grandmother's house, I've never been so desperate to return to the familiar comfort of my own room.
Mia shifts beside me, laying her head gently on my shoulder. The warmth of her gesture sends a wave of comfort through me, and I can't help but smile. "We had a good trip, Jennie. Thanks for being such a good friend," she murmurs, her voice laced with genuine affection as she gazes up at me.
I reach over to give her hand a squeeze, the sincerity of her words touching me deeply. "You're right, Mia. This has been the best school trip so far," I reply, my voice soft but heartfelt.
Despite everything that happened—the fear, the tension—this trip was filled with moments that I don't think I'll ever forget. A part of me doesn't want to admit it, but being stuck in that room with Lisa, exploring unfamiliar emotions together... It was exciting in a way I've never experienced.
My cheeks flush as the memory of the kiss on the plane resurfaces.
As the plane begins to taxi down the runway, Mia snuggles closer, her breathing evening out as she starts to drift off. Yumin adjusts her headphones and leans back, already engrossed in a movie on the in-flight screen. I find myself glancing back at Lisa once more. She's still watching over the boys, her posture protective and her jaw tight. I like this version of Lisa...

"Okay, everyone, well done. Thank you all for enduring the trip and the long flight," the teacher says as we stand in a line outside the airport. The trip is officially over, the plane has landed, and now we're just waiting for our parents to pick us up. The cold air bites at my skin, and I wrap my scarf tighter around my neck. My breath fogs in front of me as I exhale.
"Bye, Jennie!" I hear someone shout from nearby.
I turn and spot Mia waving at me, her parents loading her suitcases into the trunk of their car. "Bye, Mia!" I call back, offering a small wave. Yumin stands sheepishly beside them, her bags already being taken care of. I guess they've grown so close she's catching a ride home with Mia's family now.
