Chapter 28

Jamie's P.O.V.

Four hours later, after Ellie woke up, I left.

I have to admit, I was surprised to see her crying. I never saw her like this: vulnerable, scared and panicked.

I did my best to comfort and reassure her as I held her in my arms.

Ellie is like the sister I never had. Even if I have to leave soon, I promised her I'll always be there if she needs me.

Now, all I have to think about is how to tell Y|n that I'm leaving. Because I'm older than her, this is my last year to Rosewood. But she has one more year. At least I know she won't be alone. She has Ellie and Anastasia with her.

Me and Saskia are graduating in two months. We are already assigned to go to another country which means we're leaving after the graduation.

After I changed my clothes, I went to find Y|n.

She was in the jacuzzi, lying on one of the loungers. I swam up to her, and got on top of her, with my arms on either side of her head. As soon as she felt me, she opened her eyes and smiled:

-Hi.

-Hi...

She got up, allowing me to lie down in her seat. She sat on top of me, her head on my chest. I put my arms around her waist and enjoyed this moment that I knew would be one of the last moments spent with her for the next few years.

-Babe?

-Hmm?

She raised her head to look at me, her chin now resting on my chest.

-Saskia told me that you have already been assigned to go to another country.

I tucked her hair behind her ear.

-Yeah, we're leaving after graduation.

-Oh...

She stayed silent for a few seconds then asked:

-For how long?

-I don't know yet...

She put her head back on my chest and sighed.

-Why are we always separated?

-I'm sorry, baby...I wish I could take you with me.

-Ellie knows?

-Yeah...I told her earlier.

She nodded and looked at me again.

-Will you be here for...

-Yes, baby, I'll be here for your birthday. But I have to leave the next day.

She smiled.

-Ok.

She kissed me and I stroked her hair.

-I wish I could stay here with you forever...

-I know...And when you come back, I'll be here.

I smiled and kissed her.

-I love you so much, Y|n...

She hesitated for a second then said:

-I know you can't tell me where you're going, but at least tell me: is it a safe country?

I smiled.

-Yes, beautiful, don't worry. I'll come back to you as soon as my job is done.

-You promise?

-I promise.

She kissed me and I said:

-We should go back, it's time for dinner.

-Ok...

We got up and went to our room to change for dinner.

Once everyone was at the table we started eating, and I looked at Y|n who was on the other side of the table, between Ellie and Anastasia. She whispered loud enough for me to hear:

-Ellie, I can't eat more!

-Yes, you can.

-This is the second time you're filling my plate!

Ellie looked at her and said:

-If you finish everything on your plate I promise I'll let you go to your room.

Y|n looked at me for help but I just shrugged slightly, knowing Ellie was right.

-Poor girl, she's going to throw up.

I looked at Saskia and she smiled.

-At least you know she'll be in good hands after we leave.

I nodded and turned my attention to Y|n who sighed, starting to eat.

After she finished her food, Y|n looked at me and I took that as a sign that she wants to call it a night so I nodded and we got up, excusing ourselves from the table.

-Are you ok?

-Yeah, I'm just tired...

I looked at her but she avoided my gaze so I knew she was lying.

We entered our room and after she changed her clothes, I said:

-Do you need me to stay with you until you fall asleep?

She shook her head.

-Are you leaving?

I nodded.

-I'll see you in the morning, I love you.

She smiled and hugged me.

-I love you too.

I kissed her and got out of the room.
