"She gave me a chance but eventually told me din na wala talaga. But friends pa din kami. Parang may hinihintay umuwi eh."
Napatingin naman ako kay Jema sa loob ng hall and I found it peculiar how she was so comfortable talking kina mama and ate. Like they've known each other forever.
After the talk with Lex. Nilapitan ko si ate nung mag-isa lang siya. "Te, nagkakilala pala kayo ni Jema?"
"Anong kilala? Hindi lang kilala Pots. Naging close na din kami sa kanya."
I had my second questioning look for the night. First Lex, then si ate. Ano bang meron.
"Halos every week yan sa bahay binibisita sina papa. Minsan siya pa nga nagbabantay saglit kung kelangan ni mama magpahinga. Siya rin tumulong sa amin ma-arrange lahat to Pots, from the release sa ospital hanggang sa maburol si papa."
But why Jema. Dapat galit ka sa akin.
Jema was there every single night. But I couldn't bring myself to talk to her.

On the last night of the funeral we did a tribute for papa. Tinanong nila ako kung kaya kong kumanta and I just nodded.
"Itong gitarang to, regalo sa akin ni papa. Walang okasyon, napansin niya lang na gusto ko while naglalakad-lakad kami downtown and napadaan kami sa isang guitar shop...
Papa was always protective of me. In the eyes of some, sini-spoil niya ako. But to him, ganon lang siya bumawi sa mga panahong hindi niya ako kasama. Most of my shenanigans, I shared with papa. Suportado niya ako palagi, basta wala lang daw akong matatapakang tao. He wasn't just protective of me physically, most importantly, he was protective of my emotions. He was always the one who reassured me, he was always the one who chased my monsters away. And so I dedicate this song to him."
