Kelly walked slowly to the clinic.
She never thought she would be doing this on her own.
She had spent all night going over her decision, she could have the baby but what then.
Lin wasn't interested in being a dad. He had made that perfectly clear. She had been worried about telling him, not sure if he wanted kids. It wasn't something they had discussed but she hadn't expected him to be so against the idea.
Yes she probably should have called him straight away when she had an idea but she wanted to be certain. Her periods had never been regular so it was a couple of months till she started to suspect.
She hadn't meant to hurt him by keeping the news from him.
His words ran through her head.
"Did you think there was a chance I would take you on with a baby?"
She started to cry again, annoyed with herself that she had even thought for one second that they could be a family. He clearly didn't want that.
He just wanted the sex and companionship.
Her career was just about to go somewhere. She had worked so hard all her life and was tired of struggling. Tired of working every hour to keep the bills paid, she couldn't bring a baby into that world on her own.
The sooner she got this over and done with the better. She would get an earlier flight home and try and forget all about him.
She glanced at a message from Steve 'where are you? I need to see you'
She responded. 'I'm sorting stuff out.'
'What do you mean?'
'I'm sorting this situation out. Lin doesn't want a child with me. Or want me anymore. I can't do it on my own. By tonight it will all be over. Then everyone can get back to normal as though I never existed.'
She pressed mute on any further messages and put the phone back in her pocket.
Steve quickly sent another message 'Kel please don't do anything. I'm sorry. I assumed it was Vince's, Lin thinks its Vince's! I should've let you explain before I steamrolled the conversation.
Please don't do anything! come back to the hotel'
It was left on delivered.
He tried to call but it went to answerphone.
"Shit!"
Veronica sat next to Chris as he called Lin.
"Hey Chris"
"Hey bud, how are things going? Good night with Kelly? Did she love Hamilton?"
Lin nodded his head, he had pretty much forgotten they had even been.
"Yeah she loved it."
Chris frowned, picking up on the fact that something was wrong but not knowing what.
He decided to just get it over with.
"Lin, this isn't really a social call. Veronica went out last night. She saw Claire. Long story short.. and I really don't know how to tell you this, so I'm just going to have to say it."
Lin waited. Not sure if he could absorb any more news.
"Claire didn't have an issue getting pregnant Lin. She carried on taking the pill."
Silence.
"Lin? You there? You weren't the reason Claire didn't get pregnant. Lin?"
"Yes I'm still here. Shit. SHIT!"
He started to laugh manically.
"Why would she be so unkind. Was she really so unhappy with me that she couldn't be honest. Why didn't she want kids with me, did she think I'd be a crap dad...? Oh God I've got so many questions."
"You will be an amazing dad. We would've come over but I didn't want to interrupt your time with Kelly..."
"She's pregnant..."
Chris beamed.
"That's amazing! Oh my God so I guessed you already worked out everything was ok. I'm so pleased....."
Lin interrupted.
"Its not mine. I'm not seeing her again."
Chris stopped.
Lin laughed.
"Yeah, how fucking ironic. I don't think I can have kids then find out my ex was lying to me all along. Kelly is pregnant and it's not even mine."
