It's around 11 p.m. in a quiet American town. Yet, piercing screams echo for several hours, but apparently, no one in the neighborhood thinks it's necessary to call the police. A few hours later, two knives, a footprint, and a severely mutilated body are discovered by the police. The investigators don't know it yet, but they are about to dive into a case with a story behind it that is absolutely terrifying and deeply disturbing.

In the United States, when people think of the state of Oregon, they picture vast expanses of lush, wet forests, a green landscape, and even a desert in one corner.

Since we're talking about the U.S., even though the region is all green, there's bound to be a city in the middle to add a bit of pollution, and that city is Portland.

I say "pollution," but in reality, it's one of the few American cities that actually cares a bit about the environment.

However, it still has the characteristics of a metropolis, with its 650,000 residents. Portland is bustling with activity. It's also the employment hub of the region. But, of course, all these advantages come with a trade-off: higher crime rates compared to less densely populated areas. This is why workers in the area, whenever possible, choose to live in satellite towns around Oregon's major city. One of these towns is Gresham, primarily home to the middle class in residential neighborhoods.

Gresham offers many benefits: housing is more affordable, life is calm and peaceful, Portland is nearby for activities, and of course, crime is almost nonexistent

I did say "almost"...

In June 2016, the weekend is approaching. It's almost 3 a.m., with just one more day before enjoying two well-deserved days off. But at 2:59 a.m., the police station receives this call:

911: "911, how can I help you?"

Caller: [crying] "Someone tried to kill me."

911: "Ok... where is this person now?"

Caller: "I don't know..."

911: "Ok. I'm sending law enforcement your way, okay? Can you tell me your name?"
