A mother's instinct is a powerful thing. Often, moms make decisions that, in their child's eyes, might seem harsh, but as we grow up, we often realize that it's always, or almost always, for the child's own good. So, when a mother in a quiet town in the UK refuses to let her little girl go cycling after dinner, even though the child promises not to go far, it's easy to see that it's just common sense. Yet, faced with the child's persistence, the mother gives in—a decision she will regret for the rest of her life.

On October 2, 2012, in the afternoon, a man walked through the doors of the Aberystwyth police station, a town in Wales. His name is Mark Bridger, he is 46 years old, works as a handyman, and is accompanied by police officers, already handcuffed.
What surprises everyone is how remarkably calm he is – the reason he's there is that he's suspected of kidnapping April Jones, a 5-year-old who was reported missing the previous day.
Indeed, while April was playing with a friend on the street near her house on the evening of October 1, 2012, that friend claimed to have seen April happily get into a blue vehicle, smiling. The description of the vehicle suggests it might have been a van or a 4x4. April's friend also noted that she got in on the driver's side, which is the right side in Wales, meaning the vehicle's steering wheel was likely on the left.
The authorities know that in disappearance cases, especially when it involves a child, the first 48 hours are crucial, as it's within this timeframe that the victim has the highest chance of being found alive. As a result, significant resources are deployed to locate April.
