I wake feeling disoriented and when I look around I'm in our bedroom. I turn to see the curtain closed and lights coming in from outside, I try get up and I hear the bedroom door. Just then Nkosi walks in.
Him: Baby you're finally awake.
He rushes to my side, he holds my hand while trying to help me sit up.Me: What time is it?
He smiles
Him: It's 2 am Sthandwa Sam.
Me: And you haven't slept?
Him: kanjani(how) when you fainted.
I place my hand on his face and he leans into my touch. I move up and make space for him on the bed, he takes off his shoes and comes in. I lay my head on his chest and he kisses my forehead. I just become a blushing mess and soak in this moment.
Him: What happened he asks with a gentle voice.
I shrug my shoulders and respond.
Me: I just felt light head and weird when I went to umah water. She said something weird so my head went foggy thinking about it and I just felt dizzy.
Him: umah?? The lady you were talking to earlier??
He asks and I turn to see concern all over his face. I look back down and fiddle with my hands not thinking much.
Me: Yeah.
Him: Do you remember her name?
I feel embarrassed as I don't and thinking really hard. So I decide to just describe her.
Me: I don't remember but she was so pretty and didn't look that old. She had a warm and gentle smile, dark skinned, round eyes and has a scar on her left cheek.
He goes quite for a while and look up at him, he looks like he is thinking.
Me: Kodwa I might still be tired and have a bit of a blur, and you haven't slept.
Him: Cha I'll be back njengamanje( just now) stay here.
He gets up quickly putting on his shoes and rushes out. What the hell? I decide to stay out and wait for this husband of mine. I feel tired and I'm definitely not in the mood for all of this. After a while I hear the main door open and a few voices talking. Nkosi walks in and comes towards me.
Him: Sthandwa Sam, obaba bacel' ukhuluma nawe(the elders want to talk to you).
I look at him with shock and a "you can't be serious look". He is really overreacting.
Me: Sthandwa Sam you're really overreacting.
Him: Baby I'm not please.
Me: ukubavusa ekuseni kangaka ngisho(to even wake them up so early in the morning).
Him: Baby ngicela ungithembe(please trust me).
He says holding my hand so I get up sighing. I wear a bra and put iphinifa over my short sleeve pyjamas. I didn't notice I had them on, it was probably Nkosi. I wear my slipper and put on a doek before going to the bathroom to brush my teeth. All this is happening with Nkosi following behind me getting annoyed by the minute. When I finish he takes my hand in his and squeezes it as we approach the elders. I can't help but feel as if something is wrong. We get to the lounge and their sitting on the couches which arrived yesterday during the day, the rest of the house still needs to be furnished. They're all seating there with gowns and grey hair, there's seven of them in total, Nkosi's father, his brother and cousins. Nkosi lets me sit on the single couch as he sits on the the arm rest. I lower my head a bit.
