After a couple of hours, most guests had left leaving only people Thea considered family. They'd all congregated around the large table on the patio, the cop was happy, she had her perfectly content son in her arms and was sat opposite her gorgeous wife.
"It's just two nights Carla and it's my birthday. Aaliyah's coming with what's his name, Rob and Abi are coming. Cut the cord and come with us!"
"We don't have a babysitter Brian."
"Ruth'd have him, she's having J anyway."
"Exactly! She'll already have her hands full."
"Nana! Nana loves Ted and she never goes out anymore."
"Nana's asleep right now in our spare room Brian, she's getting older and he's hard work. I can't expect her to do that for two nights."
"Terry and I would love to have him for a couple of nights." Mags leant across the table as if to prove her sincerity.
Carla's eyes shot to Thea's, making it clear she wanted the cop to take this one.
"That's really sweet but we couldn't ask you guys to do that."
"Your not asking Thea, we're offering." Terry smiled at her.
"It's really kind but you guys are so far away if anything happened and he has so much
stuff-""We could stay here if it makes you more comfortable. It would probably be easier keeping him in his environment away."
"You'd really do that for us?" The cop looked at the pair of them.
"Thea, we told you the night you married Amy that we could never replace your parents but we consider you a daughter. You and Carla feel like family now and we'd love to have a relationship with little Ted." Mags explained.
"Honorary grandparents." Thea grinned, stroking her sons hair.
"Exactly." Mags smiled. "It would be a privilege for us, you'd be doing us a favour really."
The cop looked at her wife who had her hand on her chest, trying to swallow the emotion of this moment.
"He'd be really privileged to have you guys as grandparents but if we're doing this, we're going all the way. He already has a Nana so what do you wanna be? Grandma and Grandad?"
It was Terry and Margaret's turn to try and hide their emotion now.
"Nonna and Pops." Terry choked back tears. Amy was their only child and when they lost her, all their dreams of becoming grandparents were lost too. They both had a big fear that at some point or another, they'd also lose Thea, be it through her despair when Amy died or her job but now all they had was hope and pure joy.
"Nonna and Pops it is." Thea smiled and nodded.
"I like it." Carla sniffed, wiping her eyes.
"So your coming to my birthday weekend then?" Brian said excitedly.
"Jesus babe, read the room." Chantelle scolded.
"We're outside." He said confused, causing everyone around the table to chuckle.

Thea woke with a jump, covered in sweat and shaking head to toe. She threw Carla's arm that rested across her stomach on the bed and shot out of their room and straight into Teds. He was lead peacefully but she put her hand on his chest, feeling it rise steadily and listened to him breathing. She slid down his cot onto the floor, hugged her knees, rocked herself and tried to steady her own breathing, shaking her head trying to remove the nightmare she'd just had. Her mind was playing vicious tricks on her again. She was back at the crime scene from yesterday but every dead body had been replaced with her dead son and all she could do was shout and shake him but it never worked. The relief was slowly washing over her and she didn't want to disturb him so took one last look and shut his door behind her.
