My mom had seen Nanon outside, so she knew I wasn't in the best of moods. Her eyes crinkled in delight seeing Gawin and I hold hands, but she bit her tongue and kept quiet.

I went to shower and change while Gawin helped my mom set the table. My dad was away on a business trip, and Thanat was out with his friends for dinner after a long while, so it was just us.

As we ate, Gawin just ensured that my bowl was full, and he also checked on my mom. I ate quietly, my thoughts still lingering on the conversation I had with Nanon. Once we were done, we offered to wash up so my mother could rest.

But Gawin chased me to go spend time with my mother while he cleaned up. I went to the balcony, where she was, nursing a cup of tea.

"Mae.."

"Come here sweetie. All done? Where's Gawin?"

"He's cleaning up. He told me to go on so I could spend some time with you."

"He's a sweetheart, isn't he? Always so consistent from day 1."

"He has been. Grateful for that."

"So what's going on between you two? Mummy can't help but ask, I saw you two holding hands?"

"Mae.." I stuttered embarrassed but she just laughed, not leaving me a chance to evade the topic.

"I like him, Mae. Alot. He..he likes me too.."

"Good. Are you two together then?"

I nodded. "But I didn't ask him formally though. Should I?"

"What do you mean?" My mom asked confused. I filled her in on our conversation and she laughed!

"That's literally the two of you taking ownership of your relationship. What more do you need?"

I laughed as my mom held onto my hand, kissing it gently, happy for me. She then asked me about Nanon and what had happened outside. I filled her in and her eyes dulled a bit. My mom always loved Nanon like her own son so this was as painful on her as it was on me.

She sighed, reassuring me that though difficult, sometimes it's best to cut off for one's sanity. And as she saw Gawin walking towards us with fruit in his hand, she leaned in to whisper to me.

"He's a keeper and whom you will ever need."

I laughed out loud as Gawin joined us, perplexed but I just shook my head at him, thanking him for the fruit. We chatted and had fruit when Thanat came home around 11pm. However, the mood seemed off and he went straight to his room, slamming the door.

I was perplexed and wanted to check in on him but Gawij assured me he had it and went to check on him instead.

A little while later, we heard a groan and a yell from Thanat's room! Ma and I ran to his room, only to open the door and see Gawin on the bed, sitting, holding his bleeding wrist and Thanat, standing over him, shocked with a penknife in his hand!

What was going on?!
