Her skin felt ice cold. Her body shivered and trembled uncontrollably as she felt herself sink deeper and deeper into the dark hole, the surface far from her reach. She could barely breathe and when she tried her chest felt like it was on fire. Her last breath escaped her mouth and the faint, distant echoing of voices faded as the cold darkness consumed her.
Diana remembered when she and the other Ninja searching for a suspicious looking Mr. Hutchins, but they were both forced to split up. At first, the only sounds the Purple Ninja could hear were those of her breathing, as well as her feet hitting the cobblestone floor as she ran. After a bit of running though the Purple Ninja caught the sounds of faint buzzing, as well as a strange glow coming from around the bend in front of her. As Diana turned the corner she stopped in her tracks. Hanging from the roof were dozens of bottles with a fizzling lime liquid in them. At first the Purple Ninja was confused, but in an instant she recognized what the substance was.
It was blastzap. On action movie sets she had seen fake concoctions made to mimic the liquid. They were used in scenes that had explosions. However, the Master of Magic highly doubted that these bottles of blastzap were mere replicas, and if that was the case. There was enough here to destabilize the entire foundation of the eastern side of the palace!
"Guys!" She held up her hand to her earpiece. She was now running back in the direction she had come from. "There's blastzap in the tunnels! The whole Eastern Wing is about to become a giant sinkhole!"
"Diana? You're not coming through, you have a bad signal." Lloyd was the first to respond.
The Purple Ninja growled under her breath in frustration. "We need to get everyone out of here! The whole palace is rigged to explode—!" The Purple Ninja was cut short though as the tunnel behind her combusted into a fiery inferno. Diana let out a startled yelp as she lost her balance for a moment. The next thing the Master of Magic knew, the tunnels were shaking as the dirt spilled in from the cracks above her.
The passageway was about to collapse. She had to get out of here! Diana then started running even faster, sprinting as she did her best to dodge the rocks coming loose and falling in front of her. Suddenly though, one of the wooden support beams to her left was knocked free and fell. The way forward was now blocked by the beam and dirt pouring in from the exposed part of the wall. She had to get through, or turn back. She couldn't just stand here!
The Purple Ninja nearly lost her balance again though as another, more distant explosion seemed to go off in the tunnel system. This time the small quake shook more loose dirt from the ceiling, and as the Purple Ninja was temporarily blinded by the dirt falling into her eyes, a stone that had been lodged free hit her square in the back of the head. Sending the Purple Ninja to the ground as her body fell limp; several more explosions going off in the distance.
A few hours later, Diana regained consciousness from the incident and shook her hand. She gasped in horror at the sight of the destructive scene. Diana noticed that a few wires in her comm had came loose and stuffed it into her pocket. So, no calling for the others for backup. Diana knew that the other Ninja would be concerned about her. But the Emperor and Empress would be in great danger!
Behind her the tunnel had collapsed, the way was blocked by an avalanche of stones. Diana had summoned a bright purple ball of her Elemental Power and shot it at the stones, making the stones collapse yet again while making a passageway for herself.
As she went through the ruined tunnels and the debris, Diana had managed to find one of the secret hallways that Mr. Hutchins had used when she and the Ninja patrolled the palace. She looked around whilst keeping her ears perked up, searching for the smallest of sounds. She must help the Emperor and Empress. They had guards, but at this rate anything could happen. The heat was unbearable, but she used her powers to choke out any fires she could find.
"Help! Help!" At that, she started searching for the one who was calling for her aid. Diana slid under the fallen debris before the damage could crash her. She navigated through the fire to find Emperor and Empress.
The two Rulers both gasped when they saw Diana had cleared out the damage with her Elemental Power and stopped in front of them. "Are you both okay?"
"Oh, thank goodness you're here." The Empress smiled softly at Diana, but she looked at her husband in concern. "My husband's hurt."
"My leg." He groaned. Diana could see he was stuck underneath a beam.
Diana gazed at them determinedly. "I'll get that off, but you'll need to pull him out." The Empress nodded understandingly.
She used the Magic once more and lifted the wooden beam off while the Empress got her husband out. "Come one, let's get going." She helped stand him up and he yelled in pain. "I know it hurts, but we have to go now."
"I understand." Diana frowned at this, so she placed his hand on her shoulder and used herself as a temporary walking stick.
As they walked out of the damaged room and into one of the secret hallways, Mr. Hutchins had suddenly appeared. "Your Majesties!"
"Hutchins, it's good to see you," The Emperor said.
"We must get out of here." Mr. Hutchins looked around warily, noticing the damage and falling debris.
"That's agreed on." Diana nodded wearily, clearly remembering his explanation of switching out the real Mask of Deception with the fake one.
"Follow me." Hutchins took them to a secret wall that slid, but a fire was raging in the tunnel. "No!" He stepped in front of them protectively.
"Hold him!" Diana handed the Emperor over to Mr. Hutchins as she took a deep breath and threw her arms out against the fire, making it blow out. "It's still gonna be hot, but we'll no longer get burned alive."
"Thank you." Mr. Hutchins nodded as they started to walked off, Diana at the front to keep the steps cool and destroy any fires, Hutchings explaining how Harumi was safe with the other Ninja.
The Empress smiled softly at Diana. "History will surely remember you as the one who saved the royal family."
"Indeed, Ninjago's greatest tradition." Mr. Hutchins nodded.
"Traditions isn't my strong suit," admitted Diana wisely. "But protecting those who need protection shall be given to them. We're all living beings here, but we all have different ways of helping those in need." She opened the secret passage out of the palace and out into a forest, bright light shining to them. "Can you all find your way to safety?"
"Yes, we have a safehouse out here." The Empress gazed at her in concern. "But where will you go?"
"The rest of the Ninja," replied Diana. "They may still need me."
"Then we wish you good luck." Mr. Hutchins nodded to her. Diana nodded back and started walking the trek towards Ninjago City.
The sky was in the colors of light gold and pink as the Ninja had finally escaped the palace and the SOG, they got on the Destiny's Bounty.
"The Emperor and Empress?" The Jade Princess asked. The princess's eyes then scanned the group again. "Where is Hutchins? Did they—" The white-haired girl trailed off. The Ninja all removed their masks, and Nya was the first of them to approach the princess.
"I'm sorry princess, they— didn't make it..." Nya said sadly. Harumi then turned around and walked over to the railing, her gaze falling onto the fallen remains of her home.
"What about the Mask of Deception?" Zane asked, his question directed at the Green Ninja.
"The Sons of Garmadon got it," Lloyd replied with a frown. But he soon remembered someone important. "Wait, what about Diana?"
"I lost sight of her during the attack." Cole frowned sadly.
"No, this is all my fault. I'm her teacher, I shouldn't have left her alone on her first big mission." Lloyd looked down, holding his face and trying to fight against his incoming tears.
"Lloyd, you can't blame yourself." Kai tried to comfort his little brother.
A loud roar soon shook the sky. Hovering over the Destiny's Bounty was a great Magic Dragon. Her stunning purple body shimmering like a million amethysts. Large spikes ridged along her back and two ornate horns stuck out of either side of her head. Her eyes rivaling the purest blue sky, with long teeth protruding from a lengthy rounded snout. The dragon's long neck lowered as she spread her magnificent wings, where sapphire blue are along her spine and the edges of her wings. Her large ebony claws gleamed in the light, she bowed her head slightly in greeting.
In a glowing flash of light, the dragon had disappeared from the sky. Then, a certain purple clad girl had reappeared and landed onto the main deck with a smile.
"Hey guys." Diana greeted them.
"Diana!" At that, many of her friends hugged her. Kai and Nya both hugged at the same time, and was immediately joined by Cole, Zane, and Jay. Once they cleared out, Lloyd soon headed towards Diana with a concerned expression.
"Diana, are you okay?" Lloyd asked her.
"Yeah." Diana sat up and smiled warmly at her gathered friends. Diana looked up at the Green Ninja, studying his face just as she had the first time they met. Diana had since taken off his ninja hood, his hair a mess from all the confusion he had went through with their friends. "Thank you all, for everything." Diana clung onto the boy with a smile. Lloyd wasn't expecting the hug, but he felt himself soften as he wrapped his arms around Diana.
"You really had me worried you know," Lloyd stated as the two of them remained in their embrace.
"Your lessons had saved me, just like before." Diana continued to rest her head against the Green Ninja's chest, listening to the soothing sound of his heartbeat.
The two of them both pulled back so Diana could tell everyone what happened. "I used my Elemental Powers to get out of there and track you guys down."
"And my parents?" Harumi asked her.
"Safe, I won't say where in case we might be bugged or being watched." Diana looked around uncertain.
"You think?" Jay jumped back nervously.
"At this point, I'm not taking anymore chances." Diana sat down on the floor.
Zane rushed over to scan her. "You are exhausted and slightly dehydrated, I suggested liquids and rest."
"Good idea." Diana sighed as Zane took her to the cabin room to rest.
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
When Diana woke up, her body was no longer cold. The sun's rays warmed her skin. She sat upright, eyes squinting until she adjusted to the light. As she sat upright, her shoulders ached and she winced at the throbbing pain on her back and legs. Why was she here? Where was she? Why couldn't she remember about being here? With every question, her head felt foggy, as though something was trying to make its way to the forefront of her mind. It hurt, trying to remember. It was then she remembered what happened last night.
Diana opened her eyes to see wooden planks were on top of her. She struggled to get up, but she was pinned to the ground. Diana was trapped underneath the underneath the wooden planks, but she became alerted at the sight of a silhouetted figure walking towards her. He was holding a bo-staff... and had four arms. She gasped, a horrified feeling of terror went through her as she thought that Lord Garmadon was going to capture her... or worse.
She soon collapsed back to the ground, waiting for the blow and hopefully Lord Garmadon would walk past her. But her hopes were dashed when he kneeled down across from Diana and his shadow spread over her. Especially when he started taking the wooden planks off her.
Diana closed her eyes and whimpered softly, feeling him caressing her cheek with his fingers gently. "Diana? Are you okay?"
She was stunned by the familiar voice of her former Sensei, so stunned that she opened her eyes and locked her eyes with him. "S-Sensei Garmadon?"
"Diana!" Sensei Garmadon wrapped his arms around Diana and squeezed her tightly. She shut her eyes and let her whole body relax into the embrace. Sensei Garmadon felt Diana's arms wrap around him. A warm tear streaked down from his eyes while Diana let out a quiet and yet relieved sigh in the hug.
They both heard the sound of a parking garbage truck. The two of them both watched with amazement as Skylor parked the truck while Shade, Karlof, and Griffin quickly helped them into the truck's trunk before they drove off. Diana had eagerly greeted them and became close friends with them, especially with Skylor. They were surprised to see Sensei Garmadon sitting next to her, but they were glad to see him again too. They had managed to catch the ears of the Resistance.
