Everything was set. Knock had talked to the principal and he congratulated him and told him that he would send it to him in an email for him to print. Knock and Mouse had most of their stuff packed and hidden from their parents till later that night. Now all they had to do was wait till everyone went to sleep.
Knock couldn't get this weird feeling to go away as he lay in bed waiting for his parents to fall asleep. It was the feeling of loss. What could he possibly lose by leaving this shithole? Was it his parents who hardly paid attention to him? Was it his friends that he was abandoning? Maybe. Then why the hell was he feeling this way?
His phone buzzing interrupted his thoughts, he reached over and picked his phone up off his bedside table. It was a text from Mouse who said her parents finally fell asleep. Knock sat up and moved to the edge of the bed before standing up and moving to the door. He carefully opened it before sticking his head out. He heard his parents snoring and smiled, it was go time. He texted Mouse that his parents were asleep too and to get everything in the car then come pick him up. She said okay before he went and got his two suitcases out of his closet.
He quietly left the house and made his way to the curb to wait for Mouse. Mouse didn't live far since it was a small town so it only took her about two minutes to get to Knock's house. She pulled up in front of Knock's house and as Knock went to put his suitcases in the back, something hard touched the back of his head before a voice made him freeze.
"Where do you think you are going?" Tool said. Mouse got out of the car to see what was taking so long and gasped when she saw Tool behind Knock with a gun to his head.
"Tool, put the gun down and let us go." Mouse said.
"Did you think you could just leave with my girlfriend?" Tool said ignoring Mouse.
"She's not your girlfriend, she told you she didn't like you and you can't take rejection so you have become delusional." Knock said.
"That's because you are in the way, she doesn't know what she wants."
"Yes I do and I want Knock" she said.
"Too fucking bad" Tool said. Mouse made a decision really quickly and lunged for the gun. It took Tool by surprise enough to let Knock quickly turn around and punch Tool in the face. Tool fell to the ground, gun still in his hand before Knock reached for the gun and the real fight began. Mouse tried to help as best she could.
The gun went off and Knock gasped but continued to fight for the gun. Blows were thrown and blood was everywhere. Finally, Mouse was able to get the gun and made a decision that would change everything. She watched as Knock was pushed off Tool, she noticed that he had been shot in the abdomen. Tool went to grab the gun from her when she pulled the trigger and watched as the bullet entered Tool's head before his body hit the floor.
Mouse immediately dropped the gun and went to check on Knock. Knock was in pain and bleeding out of his abdomen. Mouse put pressure on his wound to stop the bleeding while she tried to decide what to do. The village doctor was out of town, the closest hospital was about an hour away and it would take an ambulance forever to get here. She looked over to the mansion on the hill, terror and realization hit her. They could help him but at the cost of Knock's freedom and her happiness. She looked down at Knock who was sliding in and out of consciousness and made a decision that broke her heart. She would rather let him go to save his life then stay with him and watch him die. She saw lights coming on from the houses around her and quickly went into action.
"Knock, I need you to help me stand you up." She said. Knock nodded and struggled to sit himself up. Mouse helped as much as she could and finally was able to stand. She quickly got Korn into the car before she got in the driver's seat and drove away towards the hill. She heard screams behind her but ignored them and continued to the hill.
