Yesterday was probably the worst day of Knock's life. Today was the second one. He was getting ready for a traditional dragon funeral for Disco. Apparently they do funerals a little differently than humans that live in Thailand. Dragon funerals were intensely private only dragons were allowed to attend. He was only being allowed to because he was the prince's mate.
All Dragons would be there including the ones that live in the ocean, which is why they were having it on a small cliff that overlooked the ocean but was also not surrounded by vegetation so that the Lava Dragons don't set everything on fire.
There would be a big lineup where multiple dragons from each clan would be in two lines six feet apart covering a mile of land starting from the bottom of the mountain where Korn's ancestral home stood and leading all the way to the cliff where Disco's body was to be burned. Korn assured him that they burned the body with dragon's breath and that they wouldn't see anything but ash.
Disco was to be laid on a funeral palanquin held up by thick wooden poles and carried by the friends and the mate of the deceased. Korn, Chord, Draco and Skyla's husband was to carry the funeral palanquin one mile, followed by Autumn and Bee and Kris while the dragon clan members would bow after it passed them. Knock was told that it was to honor the deceased and spiritually close the door behind Disco to help him move to the path of rebirth.
At the place where the funeral was being held. The funeral palanquin would be placed on a funeral pyre before the dragon priest would bless the body before it was to be burned by either the next of kin or the Lord of the Dragons. Since Disco had no children it was left up to Kris.
Knock checked himself in the mirror to make sure his outfit was up to par. He was given a set of all white robes with a grey sash belt that was to signify mourning. They wore white instead of black because in dragon tradition wearing black to a dragon funeral would trap the soul to the spirit world instead of the intended path.
He wasn't sure he should go. He had heard whispers of people that were from other clans saying it wasn't right for him to be at the funeral without pledging loyalty to the Lord of Dragon. He overheard them say that when Korn was away planning the funeral with Disco's mother. He was going to leave the room when Draco stood up and told those people that Knock was Disco's friend and spoke highly of him. He told them that Disco would want him to be at his funeral and then told them to shut their mouths.
He sighed and moved away from the mirror. He jumped a little when he saw Korn leaning against the door of their bathroom.
"Fuck, you scared me."
"Sorry, I didn't mean to" he said. "I just wanted to admire you while you got ready."
Korn had been calm since his breakdown yesterday but Knock could tell it would be a long time till he would be okay again. It broke his heart to see his boyfriend so completely devastated and he would do anything to give him a sliver of happiness in this dark time.
"I'm not going to ask you if you are okay cause I know you are not, but I will ask you if you need anything to get through this." Knock said. Korn moved away from the door and stopped when he was right in front of him. He took his hands and brought one hand up to kiss it before lowering it.
"You are helping me by being here. I couldn't get through this without you." He said before taking a deep breath.
"I love you, Knock" he said making Knock's heart beat faster. "You don't have to say it back but I would regret it if I didn't tell you as soon as possible. One thing I learned from this messed-up situation is that life is short and if I died today then I would want you to know that I love you with every inch of me."
Knock couldn't speak. That was probably the most romantic thing anyone has ever said to him. Of course he felt the same but for some reason he couldn't say it. Instead he let go of Korn's hands and pulled Korn against him and kissed him with all the love he had for him. Korn kissed him back with just as much love. A knock on the door broke the moment and they pulled back but not by much.
