Luna hums absentmindedly as she turns on the shower. She and Hobi just got back from their road trip and the sun was just rising. Stepping in once the water gets hot, she sighs as all the streams of water target her sore muscles. They'd done quite a bit of hiking the day before, which she wasn't used to. Oh, how good it feels to be back in her own shower. As much as she wants to lose herself in the sensation, all she can think about is the dream she had in the car.
She and Hobi arrive home to an empty house and it gives her a sinking feeling right away. They announce their arrival as they place their bags by the door and their voices echo back at them as if to amplify just how vacant it was inside. They split up to look for everyone and find that they, along with all their belongings are gone. Luna pushes Yoongi's door open and his room is bare of any personal items as well—just the furniture remains, but the fluttering of a note tucked into the mirror on the dresser catches her eye. "Sorry it had to be this way, but we have to let you go," it read and she can see her face crumple with an array of emotions through her reflection in the mirror. What the fuck does he mean let her go? Snatching the note off the mirror, she rushes to find Hobi, only to realize that his room is bare too. She runs back downstairs to check for the bag he'd left by the door when they came in and it's vanished without a trace. It's eerily silent and then much too loud as all the electronics in the house turn on, each blasting the news of her soulmates leaving her, just like her father left her mother.
It's like watching history repeat itself.
They'd had enough.
Guess they weren't so perfect after all.
She was bad for their image.
Fans rejoice, calling this breakup long overdue.
They're just too different.
They were doomed from the start.
They're better off without her.
Her heart had been beating a mile a minute when Hobi reached over and woke her up, his face etched with worry. She hadn't told him what the dream was about, only that it was a nightmare. Needless to say, she couldn't go back to sleep after that. When they arrived, she found herself relieved rather than annoyed when she saw that the shoe rack was overflowing with shoes. This dream was really getting to her.
"It was just a dream," she mumbles to herself, annoyed at the vulnerability it brought to the surface so easily.
"All these emotions are for the birds," she thinks, shaking her head as she turns off the shower water and wraps a towel around herself.
Lately, it felt like she just couldn't pull herself together. She can't say she's had the best track record when it comes to regulating her emotions, but she certainly had a tighter grip than this. It must be the turmoil, she thinks. This started when the tension started between them, which makes sense she supposes, and she wishes they could just fix it and move on. She doesn't know what to do with herself in her own home these days with how tentative things are and it's driving her up the wall. She doesn't know how long she can handle things going on this way.
She's so in her own head when she comes out of the bathroom that she doesn't even notice Yoongi until he clears his throat to get her attention. She jumps hard, one hand flying up to her chest and the other clutching the towel there.
"Sorry, didn't mean to scare you..." he says and she nods, gesturing to the closet.
"Be right back," she says, anxiety washing over her as she changes into the tank top and pajama shorts she laid out.
She's taken back to the day they fought and all the feelings of regret, guilt, and shame came right back. She should have kept her cool, been supportive and understanding—not aggressive and standoffish. She feels like shit for allowing her emotions to overshadow what was important in the moment—making sure he was okay. She failed to protect his feelings just like he failed to protect hers, but there's no consolation in them being even. Two wrongs certainly do not make a right.
