"What do you think about this?" Lewis asked, glancing at the tall man standing beside him.
"It's cute" Sid, his security guy replied with a nod.
He hesitated for a moment, then whispered "Man, this is so cute! do you think she will like it?"
"Of course, sir"
A sweet smile spread across Lewis' lips as he held a tiny baby dress in his hands, imagining how Simone might react when she saw it. He had stumbled upon the baby section while finishing up his grocery shopping for Simone and couldn’t resist going in. The sight of the tiny outfits filled him with a warm, unexpected joy.
As he browsed through the racks, another piece of clothing caught his eye, this time for a baby boy. It had a playful message printed on it "MY MOMMY IS HOTTER THAN YOUR'S" The cheeky words made Lewis burst out laughing, the sound echoing through the store. His spontaneous laughter drew the attention of a few mothers nearby, who glanced in his direction with curious smiles. Realizing that he had attracted some attention, Lewis quickly adjusted his beanie and hoodie, hoping to keep his identity hidden.
As he lingered for a moment longer, still chuckling to himself, Lewis couldn’t help but think about how different his life had become. The idea of shopping for baby clothes, something he’d never imagined doing before, now felt natural, even exciting. God, he hadn’t asked for this. He never expected that this year he would become a father or fall in love with a woman he had just met on New Year’s night. Fate had certainly taken him by surprise. The old Lewis would have been furious about this sudden change, feeling unprepared and trapped. But the new Lewis, the person he had become, saw things differently.
Instead of anger, he felt acceptance. Instead of fear, he felt excitement. It amazed him how much he had changed in such a short time. A year ago, he was a completely different person, focused only on his career and his own freedom. It was as if fate had forced him to discover parts of himself he didn’t even know existed. The old Lewis might have resisted this new reality, but the man he was today welcomed it.
Satisfied with his finds, Lewis made his way to the checkout, paid for the clothes, and left the shop. Sid followed close behind, keeping a careful watch on their surroundings. As Lewis walked down the street, a wide smile spread across his face. The paper bag with the baby clothes swung gently in his hand, and he couldn’t wait to show them to Simone. The thought of seeing her reaction filled him with excitement.
On the other side of Paris, Simone sat on the couch, gently patting Roscoe’s head "¿por qué eres tan lindo? tan guapo?" Why are you so cute? So handsome she whispered, smiling down at the affectionate bulldog. His big, soulful eyes seemed to understand every word she said.
A soft chuckle escaped her lips when Roscoe licked her fingers, his tongue warm and a little rough. Simone found the dog endlessly entertaining and incredibly sweet. He had a way of making her feel less lonely, filling the quiet penthouse with a comforting presence. She played with his ears for a moment longer before standing up, intending to get something from the kitchen. As she rose, Roscoe looked up at her with his head tilted, his tail wagging furiously, as if asking what they were going to do next.
"Vamos, Roscoe" Simone called softly. The bulldog immediately followed her, his paws padding lightly on the floor as he trailed behind her into the kitchen. Once there, she opened the fridge, looking for something to snack on. Roscoe sat obediently by his feet, his eyes never leaving her, as if he could sense that something was about to happen.
Just as she was about to close the fridge door, she heard the sound of keys jingling at the front door. Her heart skipped a beat. A moment later, Lewis walked in, his arms full of grocery bags. He struggled slightly as he pushed the door closed behind him, he headed straight for the kitchen and Roscoe, ever eager, bounded up to greet him. The bulldog tail wagged furiously, and he nuzzled against Lewis’s legs, his excitement palpable. He reached down to give Roscoe a quick pat before setting the bags down on the kitchen counter with a sigh of relief.
