Chapter 1

Charlotte was sat in the bar after work, waiting for her younger sister to arrive, her younger sister agreed to meet her for a drink to catch up, they speak everyday but haven't seen each other in a while due to Violet being away on a business trip for the last week. The two sisters were very close, Charlotte looked up when she heard footsteps walking towards her thinking it was her sister but saw Marjorie, Reece, Autumn and Sorscha and her wife Clodagh who she worked with walk towards her "Hi Charlie what are you doing here" Charlotte heard Sorscha ask her "ohh, hi everyone I'm meeting someone for drinks" Charlotte explained to the large group in front of her "you meeting Mia" Marjorie asked her curiously "no Marjorie I'm not" Charlotte said to her friend but quickly grabbed her phone from in front of her of the table and looked at it seeing a message from her sister saying she will be five minutes and that she was at the bar but was catching up with owner since she used to work there on weekends when she was a teen. Charlotte replied to Violet to let her know where she was sat and to come over when she was done and that a few of her work friends have turned up, her sister replied to say they could join them if she was okay with it.

Charlotte looked up "who I'm meeting is going to be five minutes but said you can join us for drinks" she explained to the group and watched as they grabbed more chairs and sat at the table, they were talking for a couple of minutes when they heard a voice say "let the karaoke begin first up is Violet" Charlotte looked up and saw her younger sister walk on stage and knew she had been persuaded to sing by the owner she watched as everyone clapped for Violet "she is very pretty" she heard Marjorie say and smiled softly when she heard the comment about her sister. Violet walked on to the stage and looked out at the crowd and let her eyes adjust to the lights, she looked out and saw her sister sat a table with a group of people, she grabbed the mic she couldn't believe she agreed to do this.

Violet nodded at the DJ to play the song and heard the first notes of 'Lost boy" by Ruth B play and got everyone attention as soon as she opened her mouth to sing, she got lost in the song closing her eyes as she feels every motion as she sings even at 34 years old she feels all the feeling she had when she first heard the song, she opened her eyes and caught her sister eye and smiled before continuing with the song, Charlotte was sitting there with a proud smile on her face, she was proud of her little sister even if she was 2 years younger then herself, she felt her sisters gaze and smiled at her quickly before she turned her head and looked at everyone, they were all just sat there with wide eyes and just blown away by this woman, Charlotte noticed that Autumn was fully focused and was wondering what was going through the brunettes mind.

Everyone clapped when the song finished and watched as Violet grabbed an acoustic guitar and started to strum as the DJ announced she was doing one more song, everyone was clapping louder for Violet. Violet was strumming away waiting for everyone to settle before playing an original song that she wrote years ago (AN I don't own the rights to the song or even wrote it but for the stories sake my character wrote this song) but never shared with anyone apart from her big sister, once the crowd settled down Violet started to play the chords and started to sing, catching everyone's attention once again;

Violet took a breath before continuing with the chorus feeling the emotions she closed her eyes and started singing again "What if its not Ken, but Barbie? Why should she have to say sorry? Tell me do you even listen, to all the dumb shit you're slippin? We can love who we want to. Don't say she's not supposed to, if its not Ken but Barbie. She doesn't have to say sorry" Violet felt her voice tremble remembering how nervous she was to play this song to her sister when she was 16 and how she felt when she told her parents that she loved girls instead of boys "No, not to you, not to me not to anyone, anyone, anyone. Not to you not to me, not anyone, anyone, anyone."

She remembers Charlotte bringing her into a hug after singing this song and telling her she loved her still and couldn't wait for Violet to bring home a nice girl to meet her, and how her parents accepted her and how she cried in her mum and dad's arms feeling relieved that they loved her still and they were proud of her. Violet carried on singing but she had her eyes closed "Hidin' how she feels, saying things like love ain't real. All just to conceal, that she's not society's ideal. Hearin' what they say, about those who feel the same way. She's really not okay tells herself it's just a phase. Her parents always sayin' girl when will you see, you don't know what you want. Trust us we know what you need. You'll be with your own Ken, oh so happily it's no way to live, with another Barbie"

Everyone at her sister table was sat with different feeling, Sorscha and Clodagh sat there with their hands together and felt every word that she sang, Charlotte felt so much pride for her sister she knew her sister was singing this to remind herself that everything was okay, Marjorie and Reece were struck on how much emotion can come out a small person and Autumn was enchanted by this person who was singing and was wondering who she was. Violet started to sing the last 2 verses ". Why should she have to say sorry? Tell me do you even listen, to all the dumb shit you're slippin'? We can love who we want to. Don't say she's not supposed to, If it's not Ken but Barbie. She doesn't have to say sorry. No, not to you, not to me. Not to anyone, anyone, anyone. Not to you. Not to me. To you." She strummed the last note and took a breath before walking off the stage to clapping and cheering.
