Kassia hadn’t anticipated it would unravel so quickly. She had been so cautious,so deliberately restrained from moving too fast.Their relationship was delicate, still mending after those outrageous events that have transpired, and she had resolved to tread carefully, not daring to hope that things might return to what they once were.

She cared for Apollo—gods, how deeply she cared—but there was a distance between them now,one that she couldn’t simply close with a smile or a kind word.

She tries, she truly did.Her heart was yelling at her so very loudly, how it was so angry at her mind that insisted in being as distant as she is now.She used to be a woman following her heart, now her mind has taken more reign of it than it used to do.

Apollo however had been nothing but patient, ever the gentleman, attempting to draw her out of her reserve with light conversation. He has tried everything,so passionate in trying to gain her favour again. For a brief moment, she allowed herself to indulge in it,spoiling herself in his attention and love, even offering him a faint smile. But then, without thinking, the words slipped from her lips, setting them both on this path.

I wish to return to where it all began.

The moment she said it,she could see the change in him.The warmth in his eyes dimmed, replaced by something pained, something desperate. She regretted it almost immediately. He had been so kind,so understanding of her need for space, but she knew this was different. This wasn’t about needing a quiet moment to collect her thoughts; this was about leaving Olympus—leaving him.And while it was never him she sought to escape from, she feared that was all he would hear.

This place has become more unbearable than it should, too much pain she was reminded of in every hall she walked through.

“I cannot remain here,”She said softly, her tone uncertain,as if she were unsure of her own words.

Apollo’s expression darkened, his voice low as he shook his head,he was kneeling,so was she with him crying while burying her face into her lap. “You cannot simply leave, not now.Not after everything we have been through.” There was a raw edge to his voice, one she rarely heard from him.

Kassia turned her gaze away, unwilling to meet his eyes. The distance between them felt like a chasm, wide and unbridgeable. She hadn’t meant to hurt him—she never wanted to cause him pain—but the walls of Olympus were suffocating her.Every step, every glance, was a reminder of what carnage have transpired, how she was forced into something she never wished upon herself and how it was screaming at her, telling her she will never able to rid of them. She needed to escape, not from him,but from the relentless pressure of it all.

One could never simply stayed in the place that have caused them that much of suffering.

“I am not leaving you,”She said, though the words felt hollow in her throat. She knew how they must sound to him—how they had sounded before. “I merely need respite, away from Olympus, away from all of this.I am not leaving you behind.”
