Laying in her bed Lilith watched the clock tick down, a stupid click rung every few seconds tucking down Carl's time, a bowl bowl filled with soggy wet fruit loops sat untouched on Lilith's bedside table. A food she once loved was a mean cruel reminder that she couldn't wake up at the Greene house run down stairs and be greeted by a bowl of fruit loops waiting for her, and then she would shower, brush her teeth, and then she would walk outside Jasper by her side and they would pick apples from Hershels apple tree and she would wash them and cut them up for Maggie when she would get home from college. Then she would ride horses with her aunt and after a tiring day of fun Beth would read her a book and she would fall asleep safe and sound the only sound heard was birds and a little chatter from downstairs. But this time she hadn't heard birds she hadn't even heard chatter all she could hear was that damn clock.
It was dark now and Shane and Otis still wasn't back. Glenn and T-dog came. Maggie made them food but Lilith didn't eat again. She chose to seat next to Carl's side rick and Lori along with her. Hershel said that if they didn't come back soon he would have to do it without the supplies. Lilith holded the boys hand something she was used to by now but it was different instead of him squeezing her hand it was laying limp in her hand.
Lilith was left standing speechless on the porch as Otis truck arrived the same one she used to ride in to get hay in was now left without him only Shane was there. " Oh, God. " Rick whispered relief clear in his voice. " CarI? " Shane gets out of the car and glancing Lilith could see all the supplies Hershel needed making her let out a breath Carl was gonna be okay Hershel can do this.
" There's still a chance." Lori reassured as Shane hands all the supplies to Hershel " Otis? " " No. " Lilith stoped moving tears brimmed at her eyes no? What did that even mean? Was he dead? Was he left there? Did Shane leave him there? No way Otis wouldn't have survived. Shane had to had done something. Right? She didn't listen to their words nor did she listen to their shuffles getting Carl ready for surgery. A tear slipped down her eye and she stared out onto flied. the wind made the tears leaves move side to side. The breeze was picking up. It felt like hours she had been standing there but in reality It was only a few minutes before Glenn put his hand on her shoulder. She didn't flinch only stared at the grass.
" C'mon Lill's " he softly spoke tugging her shoulder and she let him. She sat down the couch. Glancing up she could see Glenn walking to a crying Maggie in the kitchen. Lilith winced as she heard pertishas crys.
Carl was stable, that was hershels words and lilith felt a pain in her chest lifting from her chest. She slowly got up and made her way down the creaking floor broads to the room Carl was in. Opening the door, Lori was sat next to him holding his hand whispering comforting words that the boys couldn't hear. " Lori? " She whispered hestintly glancing back to see if she should just make a run for it she was never got at comforting people. Straightening up Lori glanced at the young girl "hey Lilith, are you okay " Lori put a fake smile on her face that Lilith could see straight through. Stepping into the room she shifted on her feet " 'm sorry " she mutters twirling her blonde hair in her fingers. Confusion spread across Lori's face? " For what honey? " " Carl " she whispered " oh Lilith that wasn't you- " Lilith cut her off by running and hugging her. " 'm sorry 'm sorry " she reapeted. Lori stumbled but wrapped her arms around the girl in a comforting manner kissing her head she declined any guilt " it's okay it's okay "
Lilith struggled with her brush trying to comb it through her knotted curly hair. " Ow! C'mon " she muttered wincing at the pain. Maggie raised her eyebrows at her from across the room. " Carefull, your gonna pull ya head off here let me " Lilith sighed giving up and let the girl slowly brush the ends of Lilith's hair less painfully. " Thank ya " she whispered. Maggie gave her a nod. " It's not ya fault" Lilith Furrowed her eyebrows together "huh? " Maggie rolled her eyes at the girl " Carl,Otis,Jasper.. none of it was your fault " Lilith went quiet for a second before speaking" I know " she whispered " I know " she said more firmly this time. Maggie smiled at the girl through the window and stepped back admiring her work " ta-da perfect " Lilith looked at herself in the mirror expect From the spects of dirt on her faces she almost looked normal again maybe even pretty?
Lilith eyes widen as Carl's eyes opened slowly flickering open and close. She was only meant to stay with him for a bit why rick and Lori ate. " Carl? " She whispered hestintly glancing down at him. "Lily" a shakey voice filled her eyes making her let out a breath of relief " carl! " She hugged him making him wince and her jump back "sorry! " " 'ts okay " he choked out. Lilith smiled at him before kissing his cheek and even in his pale state a pink tint crossed his cheeks. Lilith quickly stood up " I'll go get your mom and dad " Carl didn't have to energy to say something so he just watched as she speed out of the room
