I returned to work, inhaling the familiar air as I walked in, dressed in everyday clothing.

"You will be noting on this meeting and putting in your own input," he said, adopting a more professional demeanor.

I was impressed.

Taking my seat in the meeting room, I listened as he began to speak, occasionally typing away on my keyboard. I noticed one of the shareholders casting glances in my direction throughout the meeting. As we packed up to leave, he approached me with a smile.

"Hey there, you know, if Hayes wasn't such a hard ass, I would have thought we would have never seen you," he remarked.

My ears perked up. "And who are you?"

"Oh, well, I'm Julian, a long-time friend of Hayes," he replied, flashing a friendly smile.

"For a while, I thought he didn't have any friends," I blurted out without thinking. Julian chuckled.

"A lot of people do. Hell, I didn't even notice he was interested in someone," Julian mused.

"I sighed. "Me neither," rolling my eyes.

"Even though he's currently burning holes into my back, we should talk more often. It's rare anyone gets to know anything about him or from him," Julian suggested.

"Sounds like him. Anyways, I gotta go."

"Hopefully we can talk at another meeting."

As I walked back to the office, I noticed Hayes looking extremely angry, his eyes closed and his head leaned back as if he was intensely contemplating something.

"Are you alright, sir?" I asked, genuinely concerned.

"Yes... just counting down from one hundred," he replied.

"Why?"

"I'm trying to stop my behavior," he admitted.

After that, the day unfolded rather smoothly. I lent a hand to several colleagues around the office, checked off a few tasks from my to-do list, but every now and then, I felt his gaze lingering on me.

The following day seemed to follow a similar pattern. As I finally clocked out after an unusually long day, I let out a tired yawn, gazing out into the night sky.

Should I eat first or sleep?

Can I manage to do both?

Suddenly, I found myself enveloped in a tight hug, his head resting atop mine.

"I'm sorry... I'm trying so hard to take things slow, but I just can't," he confessed, his voice laden with frustration.

Of course, Hayes would snap.

"Let me go," I insisted, my tone firm.

"No, no, I won't," he replied softly, holding me tightly. We remained like that for a while, and I almost drifted off to sleep.

Almost.

"Hayes, I have to go home," I eventually said, gently trying to extricate myself from his embrace.

"Just one more minute," he pleaded. "You know... I've been trying so hard lately to suppress what I feel for you, but everything just keeps boiling over."

Yeah, he's definitely lost it.

"Even the thought of your hands just... touching me makes me go absolutely insane. I'm taking back what I said," he admitted, his voice wavering with raw emotion.

"Wait, what? I've only been working here for two days," I protested, my voice tinged with disbelief.

"I know. I'm moving your things into my house as we speak," he declared, his tone firm and unyielding.

"You can't do that, that's wrong," I countered, feeling a surge of indignation rise within me.

"It's not wrong when I own your building, and I know, deep down..." he trailed off, his hand gently guiding my chin to face him, "...that you feel something for me."

Really?

Was he serious?

"But I-" I began to protest, but he cut me off with a soft, reassuring shush.

"Shh, I will help you manage these feelings," he promised, his voice filled with a strange mix of authority and tenderness.
