The big presentation had gone off without a hitch, and I could finally feel the weight of stress lifting from my shoulders. As Hayes and I made our way across the parking garage towards his sleek luxury car, I couldn't help but feel a sense of pride and accomplishment.

We really knocked that out of the park.

"Well, that's another successful launch under our belts," I remarked with a satisfied smile. "I don't know about you, but I'm ready for a break."

Hayes chuckled, draping an arm casually around my shoulders as we walked. "Is that your subtle way of asking for a vacation, darling?"

I nudged him playfully with my elbow. "Maybe. We've definitely earned it after the long hours on this one."

God, a vacation sounds heavenly right about now.

He hummed in agreement, unlocking the car with a press of the keyfob. "You make an excellent point." Pausing, he turned to face me, a contemplative look on his face. "What if we combined business with pleasure?"

I raised an inquisitive eyebrow. "Oh? Do tell."

I'm intrigued...

The corner of his mouth quirked up. "We should have a work trip. Somewhere luxurious but with opportunities to scope out new potential partners."

I considered this for a moment as we settled into the buttery soft leather seats. A work trip did sound rather appealing - a chance to get away, but without the guilt of pure leisure travel. Best of both worlds.

"That sounds wonderful," I agreed readily. "After a few days off from that whole mess, of course."

A little break first to recharge.

Hayes made a small noise of assent, putting the car into gear and peeling out of the parking spot. As we merged into traffic, he reached over to give my thigh a gentle squeeze.

I felt my pulse kick up a notch at the intimate contact. Keep it together.

"Of course, my love. You've more than earned a brief respite." His tone took on a teasing lilt. "Though I do hope you'll still make some time for me during your vacation from work."

I felt my cheeks warm at the implication in his words, the heated look he shot me from the driver's seat. Suddenly the prospect of being alone with him, away from prying eyes, seemed very appealing indeed. Just the two of us...

"Great."

Hayes' smile was pure masculine satisfaction as he returned his eyes to the road. I settled back against the plush seats, excitement already building.

A romantic work trip. A chance to combine our professional goals while also reconnecting with everyone after the long hours and stress of the past few weeks. Maybe Hayes was right, and we could have it all.

In that moment, I allowed myself to bask in the possibilities, pushing aside any lingering worries. This trip would be perfect, I was sure of it.

What could possibly go wrong?

I chided myself. Stop borrowing trouble and just enjoy this.
