I eventually drifted off to sleep, only to awaken in a luxurious silk bed. Rising from the soft sheets, I noticed my phone resting on the nightstand.

"Jake is going to 'I told you so' me to death," I muttered to myself with a sigh, rolling out of bed. As I stood there for a moment, a thought crossed my mind.

...Maybe my mom was right.

I had tried talking to him, tried doing what I thought was right.

After a minute of contemplation, I made my way towards the door and attempted to open it.

Locked?

Damn it.

I began to bang on the door, frustration building, until finally, it swung open.

"Finally!" I exclaimed, relieved to see the door open, but my joy quickly faded when I saw a tired-looking Hayes standing on the other side.

"What's wrong?" he asked, concern etched into his features.

"What's wrong is that I was locked in this room," I exclaimed, my voice edged with frustration and disbelief at the absurdity of the situation.

"But it has everything you need," he responded casually, as if it was a perfectly reasonable explanation.

I glared at him incredulously. "What the hell does that even mean? Move," I demanded, pushing past him as he reluctantly stepped aside. He trailed behind me as I made my way down the stairs, my footsteps echoing in the quiet hallway.

"Just ask the maid, Maria. She'll get you whatever you want," he suggested, his voice muffled by a stifled yawn as he settled onto the couch, exhaustion evident in his posture.

"Fine," I muttered under my breath, feeling a mixture of irritation and resignation as Maria suddenly materialized in the kitchen.

"What would you like, dear?" she asked, her wrinkled face displaying a kindly expression.

"Coffee, and make it strong," I replied tersely, shooting a pointed glance in Hayes' direction.

"Why are you so tired?" I questioned, a twinge of concern seeping into my voice as I noticed the weariness etched on his features.

"Long night. I finished some work," he explained with a weary smile, his eyes betraying the weight of fatigue.

"You need to learn how to take time for yourself," I chided gently, crossing the kitchen to stand beside him. He chuckled softly, the sound tinged with resignation.

"It's cute when you're worried about me," he remarked, his tone laced with affection as he reached out to brush a stray lock of hair from my face.

I couldn't help but roll my eyes in response, a mixture of fond exasperation and genuine concern swirling within me.

"I'm more worried about the well-being of everyone else who works closely with you," I admitted, my voice softening with sincerity.

"I know how I get when I'm tired," he conceded, a flicker of vulnerability flashing across his tired eyes.

"So stop working so much," I urged, my frustration bubbling to the surface as I fought to contain my concern for him.

"If I took that out of context, it sounds just like me and my husband's fights," Maria interjected, appearing with two steaming cups of coffee.

I sighed inwardly, a weary smile tugging at the corners of my lips as I accepted the cup from her, the warmth seeping into my chilled fingers.

"Here, drink it," I insisted, pushing the second cup towards Hayes with a gentle nudge, my gaze softening as I met his tired eyes.

"I don't need coffee," he protested weakly, a faint smile quirking his lips.

"Why? Are you planning on going to sleep anytime soon?" I teased lightly, a playful glint dancing in my eyes as I nudged the cup closer to him, a silent plea for him to take care of himself.

"No, I need to go back to the office," he replied, his voice tinged with resignation as he accepted the cup from me, his fingers curling around the warm ceramic.

"So drink it," I insisted firmly, my voice laced with quiet determination as I watched him take a hesitant sip, a small gesture of self-care amidst the chaos of our intertwined lives.

After he eventually left, I seized my phone and immediately dialed Jake and Sarah, needing to confide in someone.

"I told you so," Jake chimed in as soon as he picked up.

"Not the time," I snapped, feeling the weight of the situation pressing down on me.

"But I really think you should give him a chance. I mean, it's not like you have a choice," Sarah interjected,
