Chapter 22

Maddie's POV:

I wake up at 6:44 to my phone blasting "Temporary Home" by Carrie Underwood I quickly turn my alarm off before it can wake up AJ and Sabrina. I lay in bed remembering all the drama with Sabrina that played out a few days ago. I quickly get up and shower getting dressed for the day. I put on some light makeup curling my hair. As I finish getting ready there is a knock on my door. I open my door sighing in relief seeing that it was Ava and not Sabrina or Sophia.

"Hey Ava how'd you sleep?" I ask grabbing my black jean jacket out of the closet to put on

"Alright actually Sophia and Sabrina came and saw me last night to apologize for self harming again and not telling us." Ava says sitting on my bed rolling her eyes sighing

"Yeah well Satan and mini Satan tried to come in my room last night I pretended to be asleep." I say laughing as Ava smirks laughing lightly

"Yeah well I made the mistake of opening the door when she knocked. In my defense I thought it was gonna be you. Once I saw it wasn't I tried slamming the door in their faces." Ava says shrugging as I laugh picturing it

"So what's the plan are we all gonna go down and have breakfast with Sabrina and Sophia?" I say rolling my eyes

Before Ava can respond I hear two knocks on my door. I look at Ava knowing she is also hoping one of those knocks don't belong to Sophia or Sophia. I open the door relaxing when I see Chloe and August standing there. I move out of the way and watch as they join Ava on the bed before I close my door locking it.

"Did spawn point and Spawnee call you guys last night? Why are you here?" I ask looking at Chloe and August watching as they nod shyly afraid to admit it but knowing they can never lie to Ava and I we always see through their lies we can read them like open books

"Sabrina and Sophia called saying you both might need us today. So being your guys's best friends we came over as fast as we could so you guys can talk to us. We left our houses without eating breakfast." Chloe says rubbing the back of her neck nervously as Ava rolls her eyes sighing

"Well Sophia tried to get me to open my door last night and let her in but I ignored it. There is nothing she can say to excuse what Sabrina did. She knows she messed up and she is trying to cover it up for her like she used to do when we were younger." I say sadly looking at my ground not wanting anyone to see the tears I'm holding in

"So I was the only one who stupidly answered their knock. I knew I should have texted Maddie first before I opened the door." Ava says rolling her eyes laughing to hide the hurt she's feeling inside making August smirk as she reads between the lines at what Ava is just said knowing she's hiding her feelings

"It honestly is really sad how she tried to talk to the both of you like Sadie has any actual reasoning to do what she did. She fucked up trying to cover for lying about it. She just needs to admit it to you guys and prove she will not do anything like that again." Chloe says sighing as I nod agreeing she knows everything we went through when we younger when Sabrina would self harm I told him everything the first day we met

"I just wish she'd try to be understanding why we are hurt and Sophia didn't defend her and she'd be our mom. I'm tired of being the only kid with fucked up family members who never wanted her in the first place. I'm tired of pretending everything is okay when it's not." Ava confesses looking at the floor I watch as Caleb and August get up and hug her holding her tightly

"Aves it's okay we both secretly want that I promise it's not just you. At least at the end of the day we still have each other. I will always have your back and be there for every milestone you achieve. That is one thing you will never have to wish for is me being there for you." I say getting up and hugging her as she nods wiping her face squeezing me tight

"As much as I wish we could camp out here all day what are you gonna do for breakfast? I know you guys haven't eaten yet have you?" August asks as Ava and I shake our heads no

"Well we can go downstairs, eat, ignore them, and then come back upstairs and hang in your room." Chloe suggests as I nod

"Alright I'm down for that lord knows I'm good at ignoring their scratching nails against chalkboard voice." I say seriously making August and Chloe laugh loudly

"Okay Ava let's go eat." I say as I smile squeezing her hand reassuringly and we all go downstairs

I am the last to walk downstairs. Once we're downstairs I grab the cereal ignoring the fact Sophia is cooking. I grab four bowls handing them to August. I watch as Ava grabs the milk and Chloe grabs the spoons. We all sit at the table eating. I scroll on my phone looking at my TikTok. I look at Ava and August and see them listening to music. I look at Chloe and see she's busy texting playing a game. I smile thinking about how she has been trying to best this level for almost a week now. We all eat our cereal ignoring Sabrina's attempts to get our attention. Once we finish our food we rinse out our bowls going into my room. I sigh as I lay on my bed knowing today is gonna be another long day avoiding Sabrina and Sophia. I can't wait til Tuesday when we all go back to work. I actually am praying for work. I never wished so hard for Tuesday to come like I am doing right now.
