Around 9am I noticed Redline, Freija, and Wreign coming down to the training area, so I stopped hitting things with my tail and hopped into the air to glide over to them. I managed to get two levels in (Flight) and a level for (Tail Smash) in the two or so hours till now so I was decently happy...not to mention I was finally going to be going outside of the city again!
It's been much too long since I've been able to gather up some Noodles! I needed to find a way to bring some with me wherever I went: whether it was storing them in a place they wouldn't die immediately, or simply getting a bucket of them and sneaking them into the city was something that was going to need extensive testing for the near future.
I made sure to keep myself visible to the three of them the entire time since both Freija and Wreign seemed to have gotten more protective over Red. Whether she knew it or not, and they always got kinda twitchy if I came in too fast or just materialized next to her. Then again, if I had seen someone I considered family in the state that Redline had been in, I think I would've been rather traumatized as well. And it had only been a few weeks since the incident as well, so it was still pretty fresh on everyone's minds.
"Hey Sc'the" Wreign was the first to speak, "You ready to go check out your first Dungeon?" He sounded excited, but tail was a bit of a tell for me. Like Freija's both of their tails kind froze whenever they thought of something that endangered Redline's life, but they hid it by doing something else, or covering for each other.
Freija, it seemed, was taking on that role today. "You have everything that you might want to bring out today you two?" She looked between me and Red, and neither of us could hold in our excited limbs. Red's tail kept twitching even though she nodded seriously, and I couldn't control my tail at all. It made me glad that it was all fluff now and less scales since I would definitely have scratched up nearly everything in the house if I hadn't gained fur.
"I can see that you're both itching to get out so I won't hold us here for much longer, but first we need to go to the guild and grab some missions for on the way." Freija laughed as both of our moods plummeted, "Oh don't be like that. You both need the experience, especially Sc'the since he's likely going to be going around the city more often in the future so take this as a kind of rough introduction to the lesser known parts of city life."
I'd been around the city plenty thank you, but it might be interesting to see how the underground part of society worked. It was a pretty open concept back on Earth, due to the fact that most of the legal force was in the middle or upper echelons of the floating cities, and those that were on Earth didn't care about anything as long as it didn't get them involved.
Hopefully it wasn't the same kind of thing here.
I followed the three upstairs, with Redline hanging back with me patting my head unconsciously while we walked. I let her, it was actually a pretty soothing thing that she'd just started doing randomly after the incident, and it was nice being able to just be there in my own way for her. As soon as the main gates opened I let my natural invisibility cover me and followed closely behind the three as they made their way around the city at a moderate pace.
Maybe ten minutes into our leisurely stroll, Redline spoke up, "It would've been nice if you'd grabbed them before so we didn't have to go through the busiest part of the city during the morning rush hours..." I looked at her curiously from behind them, wondering what in the world would make such a thing possible and then we rounded the corner of an alley and all I could see at the other end was the start to a sea of very busy people going to and fro just past the intersection into the main walkways.
It would probably best if I went on the roofs and followed them that way from here
"Sc'the you should probably trail us from the rooftops..." Wreign said aloud my thoughts exactly and I was already on the nearest roof-top looking down at them by the time he finished. They all noticed this and he tilted his head at me whilst Freija looked at him with a smirk."Huh."
"Come on. Lets get there faster so we can leave sooner" Redline huffed, pushing pas them and stepping into the crowd without hesitation. They quickly followed after her and I followed them from above, making sure to not run into or destroy anything along the way as they made their way to a bar and disappeared inside. I thought about it for a second whether I should join them or not and a glance around at the giant crowd was enough to keep my tail seated where it was to wait.
There was no way in hell I was going to try and get there without brushing against a single person...even with my Skills. So I waited, and after a few long, boring minutes I just decided to lay there with my front paws over the edge of the building to watch the busy crowd. It was actually pretty interesting: there were multiple kids running around here and there, a few of them had what looked like mail or packages, and there were several different kinds of beast people mulling about as well. Most of the Kin kept a respectable distance away from the other, even when just passing each other near enough to almost touch shoulders, but the amount of humans and beast kin was pretty astounding.
I wonder how long it took for the other inhabitants of the city to actually like or treat beast kin fairly, or if it's just been like this since the city was first established?
Something to ask Redline and the others about later.
I continued to watch people mulling about until Redline and co came out of the bar and started down the road towards the west gates. I, unfortunately couldn't go over to them, so I just let my eyes become visible for a second or so while Freija and Wreign looked around and there was a motion between the two and their pace towards that direction increased a little.
When we finally got to the gate outside of the city roughly an hour and a half had passed by then and unfortunately there was a long line to get out of the city. I knew I should wait for them but the Noodles were calling, and if I was going to get a chance to figure out how to sneak at least a few of them anywhere it was now. I first made sure that they were waiting in line before running across the remaining rooftops to the edge of the building line where the walk area around the city just before the wall began. It was like maybe two or three times my body length, but it was easy enough to just jump over from the buildings to the edge of the wall.
I never actually looked how thick the walls were so just running through with (Incorporeality) alone was probably not going to be enough, so I decided to go to the middle of the path till the buildings and activated (Dash) just before taking off into a sprint at the wall. I hopped just before I hit the wall and flapped my wings one using (Flight) and (Incorporeality) just before hitting the wall. Doing this reminded me of the many times at night when I used the training room where I had to do this exact thing to pass through thin walls I had to push around myself, or a giant mountain of sandbags...and the equally countless times I ran headfirst into said wall or mountain because I was either too slow or too early.
It was a good thing that I didn't get cut in half or something if I accidentally re-materialized in the middle of the wall or hill. It seemed that the sudden materialization of something inside of either made the just explode rather than separate whichever parts of me that weren't there. And thankfully I tested that beforehand with my tail and a paw; it would've sucked it just fell off after my ability ended, but at least I wouldn't have been dead.
It didn't even take me a second to pass through the wall and I ended up having to quickly disable my (Incorporeality) before I passed through the ground and got stuck there...something that also happened quite a lot downstairs. Though when that did happen I was just able to push against the ground and flap my wings once while reactivating the ability to get myself out.
I did a quick forwards roll as I neared the ground too fast to turn my glide into a trot or run and I was off into the forest.
First thing's first, can I stuff the Noodles inside of my (Void Storage) and will they survive the process?
This was harder than I thought it would be to start again. I don't know why but I ended up having to redo the starting portion of this chapter like...twice. Also sorry this is a bit of a shorter chapter again, this is the first time I've been able to sit down and write without worry for a while...ironic considering I should still be worried about going to the military :/
Anyways I hope you enjoyed and Patreons please forgive me but I'm going to keep the Patreon link and shout outs out of the end of the chapters until I am back for good. Since these are free chapters and my page is currently unpublished.
