Paul is driving to the hospital as fast as he can, breaking a few speeding laws, but it's not important right now. We're five minutes away, and mom's likely wondering where we are. "Let's hope we make it without being pulled over-"

"Don't say it!" Annabeth and I yell.

"You'll jinx us!" I continue.

"Never tempt the fates!"

"Okay, okay! We're here!" He says, and Annabeth and I pile out of the car. "I'm gonna go park. I'll be right up."

"Alright." We rush to the receptionist's desk.

"How can I help you?"

"We're here for Sally Jackson." She types into her computer.

"Relation?"

"I'm her son." She looks at Annabeth. "She's my girlfriend." The lady nods, continuing to type. She prints out two wrist bands after getting our names and secures them around our wrists.

"She's in room 332 in the labor and delivery section. Just follow the signs."

"Thank you." We start to hurry over there, not quite running, but still going quick. We arrive at the room, and hear groans of pain, and knock on the door. A nurse opens it, and mom looks over at us.

"They can come in for now." The nurse lets us in, and I hug my mom as best as I can.

"Mom!"

"Sally!" Annabeth hugs her too. "How's it going?"

"It's going." She says, breathless. "Where's Paul?"

"Last we checked, he's parking the car, but he should be here soon. Depends on when he can find a space." I tell her, to which she nods. Another wave of pain washes over her, and she lets out a scream. I let her squeeze my hand, and I swear she almost breaks it. After a minute or so, she lets go, panting. "Was it this bad for me?"

"Truth be told, I can't remember." I raise a brow.

"Womens bodies are made to forget the pain of childbirth a few months after it happens. We know and remember it hurts, but we don't remember just how much it does. Why do you think after a while people will decide to have another one?"

"Love?"

"Fair enough." She says.

"Wait, how do you know that?"

"When we found out your mom was pregnant, I started reading some books." She admitted, but far from bashfully. I just nod. "How far apart are the contractions?"

"About two minutes." She says as a nurse checks her again.

"Eight centimeters. Almost time to push." Paul knocks on the door, finally able to be in the room, just as another contraction hits mom. I say nothing about the pain in my hand, since she's going through way more than I am. Annabeth is wiping sweat off mom's brow with a rag the nurse gave her.

As the contraction dies down, I go to the other side of the bed with Annabeth as Paul takes her hand and kisses her forehead. He knows it's going to be okay but is also aware she might not want to hear that right now. "You're doing amazing honey." He says instead. She smiles weakly as he brushes hair out of her face. A doctor comes into the room.

"Mrs. Blofis, it's almost time to push. Do you want your son and his girlfriend to step outside during this?"

"Yes please." While I'm a little hurt, I can understand she doesn't want me in for this. "I'd rather not have him see how much pain this will be for me." She smiles at me, and motions for me to come closer. I lean over her hospital bed, and she kisses my forehead, making me smile.

"We'll be right outside the door mom."

"You can come back in once she's here." She pants, another contraction hitting her, this one sooner than the last. Annabeth takes my hand, and we step outside, closing the door behind us as my mom screams in pain again. There's a couple of chairs outside the doors, likely for grandparents to wait for their grandkids, so we aren't the only people waiting.

"Do you think you ever want to go through this?" I ask Annabeth. She hums, thinking it over.

"I think I will one day, but not right now, or anytime soon. Maybe after college though."

"Of course. I was just thinking with all the pain mom's going through, would you ever want to even have kids..."

"I appreciate the concern seaweed brain. But You're gonna be by my side unless something happens. I think with you with me, I'll be able to handle it." I smile at her, and hug her from the side. It's a little awkward with the arm rests in the way, but she laughs a little, doing her best to hug me back.

It only twenty minutes later when the doctor peeks his head out. "You two can come in now. Congratulations on your new sister." My eyes light up, hearing the small cries of the newborn. I have to hold myself back as to not rush in immediately, and instead wait for Annabeth to get up too. We head in, seeing mom feeding the little girl with black hair and red skin. Apparently, her skin is going to be quite red for a while but that's normal. I don't know a whole ton about newborns so this is going to be a learning experience for me.

"Percy, do you want to hold her?"

"Can I?" I ask, nervously. She nods, and helps me hold her. She opens her eyes, and I see they're a bright forest green, closer to Paul's eyes than mine. I smile down to her, trying not to cry at how adorable she is with her little face. I bounce her gently, adjusting the blanket so she can stick her little hand out, in which she takes my finger. "Hi there. I'm your big brother Percy." I coo at her, carefully sitting on the bed with Mom, Paul on her other side, kissing her knuckles and smiling at the two of us. Annabeth is looking at her over my shoulder.

"So, what's her name Sally?"

"Estelle. Her name is Estelle."

"Hello Estelle. Welcome to the world." She smiles down on the baby, who coos in response. it's in that moment that I know I'm going to do everything in my power to keep her safe.

Even if it costs me my life.
