When your Boss Falls in Love

AN: I saw something similar to this on AO3, and it sparked an idea. We don't have a lot of details on her team so this could be wrong, so work with me. Hope you like this :)

Drew's POV:

Being a professional bodyguard is not the career I had thought I would go into, hell, or even stay in. I was in the military for 10 years before getting out after seeing enough war and destruction overseas, I wanted a calmer lifestyle. After a few months of being unemployed, a buddy of mine reached out about a bodyguard gig for a newer country music star, and the pay was good so I took it. That was 14 years ago. It went from I needed a job, to now considering Taylor a close friend, whose security is my top priority. 

When I first started out, this job was easy, just keep the young screaming girls away from Taylor and to keep my eye out for any creepy men. Today it's a lot more complicated, with an ongoing list of stalkers, crazed fans, terrorists, and delusional men. But even though the role has changed throughout the years, I wouldn't give up this job for anything. We went from a team of two bodyguards, to a team of over 15 consistent members and over 50 members on backup if needed. I am one of three that stay with Taylor on a day-day basis which means, wherever she goes we go. When I first took this job that meant moving to Nashville, then to New York City, then part time in LA, more recently even overseas to London.

In late 2016, Steve and I were pulled aside by Taylor and Scott Swift letting us know she would be moving to London with her new boyfriend and wanted to know if we would be willing to come with her. Just like that a month later, I packed my bags and moved to London for Taylor. 

Working for a celebrity means you learn to be discrete and keep your opinions to yourself on their friends, family, and relationships. At first, I liked Joe, I felt like he was helping keep a smile on Taylor's face after everything that went down with Kanye. We didn't do much outside of the house during this time, or if they did, Taylor wore a wig and kept a very low profile. COVID hit in early 2020 and we were all stranded together in Taylor's home in London and that was the first time I started to see the cracks in the relationship. Steve and I had our own apartment on the property but we took shifts patrolling the grounds, and it became hard to ignore the constant yelling and fighting we overheard. 

It wasn't until late 2021 when Taylor asked if we would be willing to relocate back to the US so she could start prepping for her world tour she had planned to start in 2023. It was nice to be back on US soil, but with the re-recordings of her albums meant a lot more public appearances. When Taylor was honored at NYU and given an honorary doctorate, I felt immense pride for her, she had accomplished so much from the young girl I first met back in Nashville. It wasn't hard to notice that while her family and friends were all there to celebrate her achievement, Joe didn't show. By mid-2022, I had decided I didn't like him and Taylor deserved better. I could see the spark leaving her eyes every time he didn't show up for events with her or when he would cut their calls short due to spending time with the cast for a movie he was on. 

The spark was completely gone by 2023, and even though no one said anything I figured they were over. The first night of the Eras tour kicked off with a huge party, and when Joe didn't show it solidified my thoughts. I watched Taylor put on a fantastic show every night with large smiles on her face in front of her fans, but the second she was away from the crowd it was like a dark cloud was over her eyes. A few weeks later, Scott let us know Joe was to be taken off all of our lists and is no longer considered a welcomed visitor. 

In May, Taylor let us know her "friend" Matty Healy was to be put on her allowed visitors list again. Matty had been like a revolving door on whether or not he was on Taylor's good side since early 2014, and I never liked him. He always wants to smoke in our cars, and I'm not confident he isn't on drugs, which is not what Taylor needs. For a few weeks, I see the old Taylor again, smiling, laughing, and hanging out with friends. But then like always, in a puff of smoke, Matty's gone and so is the light in Taylor's eyes.
