(Paperly's POV)

I look around the corner from the alley that I hide in, and see the townsfolk do their daily jobs. The Milkman delivering milk, the business man doing..whatever business is, etc.

I have to wait till no one's around before I walk out, I was a doppleganger after all. And while I do look quite human, my face is just a flat sheet of paper with a weakly drawn interpretation of a human smile.

Eventually everyone is gone from the street and I head out. The wind blowing on the mock Mohawk that my disquise had as I enter the apartment building, there was a small line of people coming home from work. Thankfully though I didn't see the person I was copying in line, and even then my plan wasn't to enter the building but more..

My love, and admirations for the doorsman.

I always found it amazing how a human can handle everything that my kind can put out on them.

Eventually it was my turn, "I-" they were about to say when they saw me. I know I had to physical face under the paper but if I did I would be smiling with I think blushing.

"Hello doorsman" I say, they freeze..my heart is beating in my chest, God why did this have to be so hard?..normally when I'm talking to humans which doesn't last long is fairly fine.

But the doorsman always made me nervous then I was, I was a doppleganger not another human.. "your not Steven Rudboys" they muttered, it was also the first time they actually saw me up front before.

"Well, no, no I'm not Steven..but, but please just listen before you push that button please" I see them move there hand away from the button

My anxiety loosens a bit as they move away from the button, "I appreciate you not hitting it, I..Im not interested in wanting in, I just wanted to ask you something"..the doorsman raised a brow, probably wondering why a dopple such as myself wouldn't want or attempt to get in.

"I love you" I say, but regret it as they don't say anything back..I drop my arm down about to run away from embarrassment when the doorsman holds my hand through the slot under the glass.
